will 2 inch acrylic glass be thick enought for this aquarium?

I am really new to using acrylic glass but got a great deal on the material from a project that is being demo’ed the glass is 2 inches thick and am cutting it to 12 feet by 8 feet. the aquarium is going to be 12 feet long by 8 feet tall by 8 feet wide. Yes this requires a expansion on my house but its worth it. Comes out to a shade undert 5700 gallons. Any aquarium nuts hit me up with your opinion on this.

ya it should be
thats a big freakin aquarium
HMMM! That’s a good question. I have a 550 gallon aquarium and I think the glass is 1″ thick on it. I also have about 1.000 gallons total in other tanks as well. I do know that water weighs 1 pound for every 10 gallons, and you will end up with 57,000 pounds of water in your tank. That would create a lot of pressure exerting outwards. I do think that the thickness of the glass is strong enough, but I would worry about the braces on the sides and bottom. You also need to make sure that you have at least 4 braces across the top of the tank running front to back. this will help alleviate any pressure and keep it under control. Make sure that the sealing compound on the sides, corners and bottom of the tank is durable and can withstand a lot of pressure and that it is also fish friendly. I hope this helps a little.
i know that water is not one pound per 10 gallons. it weights 8 lbs a gal.
that’s all most 50,000 lbs good luck
Should work for you. Just make sure you brace it well. think of all that water pushing on the acrylic from behind. bracing the top of the sides and front will keep it from cracking/bowing to horrible proportions. Check out how they custom make them on ebay and you’ll get a good idea of bowing/bracing problems. Good luck!
