Why is my male kribensis so aggressive?
Ok. So I have a 120 gallon freshwater aquarium that is well established. I currently have a pair of gold rams, a pair of red rams, 3 opaline gourami, 3 sparkling dwarf gourami, 6 cory cats, and 1 male kribensis. My kribensis had a female but, she died a week ago ( she was about 3 years old). All of my dwarf cichlids have their own areas they “hang out in ” and pretty much keep to their mate. Except now my male krib seems sad. I went and bought him a new female to help him feel less lonely LOL. He is really aggressive towards her. Why is this happening? He has never been aggressive toward any of the other fish in the tank. Is he just trying to show how strong he is? I am wondering if I need to return her. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Well I think you need to return the fish. Obviously no one wants to have some female counterpart suddenly pushed onto you without you being able to choose and normally, fish choose their own mates out of a set of other fish. It may have just been a good coincidence at the beginning with the other female that they liked each other. That’s obviously not the case here and she’s probably making unwanted advances or something like that.
Give your male krib some time to show his new mate he is “boss”. Usually a unmated male krib will be very assertive towards any female krib he comes across. I would not return her and give it a day or two and soon you will see them pairing up.
