Why are there loads of little bubbles at the top of my goldfish tank?

Hi, I bought 4.4l fish tank a couple of days ago, I filled it and dechlorinated it and also put in some oxyweed to improve the water condition. I put two goldfish (a yellow goldfish and a black goldfish) in yesterday and they seemed to be fine for a little while.

I fed them last night and again this morning but they are not eating properly. I have given them floating pellets to try and reduce wastage sinking to the bottom. They only eat one each and leave the rest. Is it possible they don’t like this kind of food and I would be better off with flakes?

Now a load of tiny bubbles have appeared at the top of the tank and the fish keep swimming up and appear to be gulping in air. They are doing this constantly and spend more time at the top of the tank than anywhere else.

Any advice on this?
Thanks.
I have just been out and bought a tank double the size (8.87l)
I have also ordered a filter for the tank which should turn up tomorrow, and for now I have put a couple of oxygenating tablets in to help them breathe a bit better.
I have put a few flakes in there to see if they will eat those instead.
I hope this works, they seem a bit happier already!

it takes time for them to get used to the tank if not better by tomorrow get a new tank

your bubbles might be coming from your filter, mixed with the dechlorinated liquid, i notice it alot after i do water changes. but maybe trying flakes would help with feeding

You tank, for one thing, is too small for two golds. Also, you don’t mention a filter. When keeping goldfish, you really need a filter. The bubbles are from your golds gulping for air. That’s why they are at the top of the tank…no air is being replaced, or oxygen, in the tank. If they are just eating one pellet, then thats all they need. overfeeding golds leads to a quick death from swim bladder problems and can lead to bloat.
As I’ve said, your tank is really way too small. Gold fish need at least a twenty gallon and with heavy filtration.
This is what is happening to your fish. No amount of oxyweed will help.

4 litres is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too small for one goldfish. That’s only 1 gallon. You need 20 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 gallons for each next. Why?

    1) Goldfish are huge waste producers and will make a small volume of water too dirty and will kill themselves with the amount of waste in the water. It’s unhealthy for the goldfish.

    2) Goldfish can grow to over 1 foot long, that’s a lot bigger than your tank!!

Did the pet store tell you that you could do that? It’s crazy to try to put ANY fish in 1 gallon.

You will also need a filter for a tank for goldfish.

Basically if you keep the goldfish in there… they’re going to die… I’m not surprised they won’t eat, they’re probably really really suffering.

I don’t mean to scare you, it’s just facts are facts. : Sorry.

Honey, an 8L tank is still not NEARLY ENOUGH for two goldfish!! Why did you buy that?!? I guess it’s better than what they already have but I think it’s a waste of money since it’s still an inadequate home!! They are still going to die in there!!

Danielle, I see you havent mentioned afilter. I dont think you should feed last night then again this morning asit is a new system I suggest you test the water ie Nitrite and Ammonia as i feel strongly the problem is the water, but as an emergency I would do a fifty per cent water change, using De Chlor and test water quality every day, If there is no filter, they do need one

you really need to get a bigger tank-its too small for those fish. if you have no filter, they are not getting the oxygen they need from the water column itself. you need to upgrade in your tank size, and get a filter. chances are, if you keep them in that tank they will just die.

your tank is a bit small for goldfish. Them bubbles are just oxygen, don’t worry about them. they are coming to the surface for oxygen.

I need help. I bought 6 goldfishes and one small striped fish. 5 goldfishes are small and the other one is around 2 and a half inches. They are in a 1 gallon tank. I have an air tank but im not sure i set it up right. There’s like 1 inch of bubbles on the top. Is this normal? And does anyone have any suggestions on the tank size or anything else thast might help. If you have a link to a video on how to set up an air tank i would really appreciate it.
