Why are my angelfish staying in one spot?

Tank: 54 litres (14 gallons), Temp: 27.5 C (81 F), some cover. Filter @ 250Litres/hour. 3 Angelfish, sex unknown.

I just moved them to this bigger tank. Added some of the old tank’s water in order to speed the cycling process and make it easier on the fish. New gravel, old decorations. Previous tank did not have light (18watt).

They tend to stay in one spot near the bottom when the light’s turned on. They do swim around a bit when it’s off. I only turn it on for a couple of hours during the evening. They also tend to hide under a cliff decoration thingie.

Are they afraid or stressed by the light?
How do I unstress them from the light?

Well….maybe they are actually scared of the light. I have an angelfish at my parish and when I turn on the light it runs away. So they are actual scared of the light in question.

They are simply ‘taking their time getting used to their new tank’ … and they may also be ‘sleeping’ at the time you want the ‘light’ on them, so try the light at other times to see if they don’t ‘swim around more’ … also, if they are ‘hiding’ under the ‘cliff decoration thingy’ they might be getting ready to BREED …

More then likely if your old tank didnt have a light on it, they are just a bit frazzled when suddenly there world is lit right up. Alot of fish get nervous and hide when you turn the lights on. You can try to turn on the lights in the room for a little while, then turn on there tanks light. Ive had a light on one of my 55 gallons and Im constantly walking by this tank, and have fish a few shy fish that still swim and hide when I turn the lights on. Its still new, they will adjust, no worries. =) Great dimples btw..lol
