What type of bottom feeders &/or algae eaters with small non-aggressive schoolers & swimmers?

In a 29 gallon tank with heater & a 20-40 AquaTech filter, we have an assortment of very small to small non-aggressive, yet very active fish: 15 tetras ( 6 neons, 6 glowlights, 3 blue), danios 18 ( 3 striped, 3 spotted, 6 orange glofish, 6 lime/yellow glofish), 5 assorted male guppies with fan-like tails (had 6, but lost one a few days ago)… 38 fish total, all not more than about 1 inch long each, all are active & appear to be healthy. At present, we do NOT have live plants. What type of bottom-feeders &/or algae-eaters would be ideal for our current community? We’d prefer something that will stay on the small side & that is non-aggressive… we were considering maybe 3 small cory cats or a small plec, or a snail.
Also, water is clear & levels (pH, nitrates, etc) are ideal… is normal to have a fishy type smell?… it’s not a strong smell, just faintly there when we open hood to feed. We’ve had the tank up & running for about 2 wks, but only a week with fish in it.

You want to get yourself a couple of catfish, and when some of your fish die, it might be worth getting 10 15 female guppys to keep them happy, males tend to nip at each other, like sexual frustration haha lol
But you need to seriously lower the number of fish in that tank first mate.

you dont want or really need any algae eaters unless your having the problem with it most of them will grow to a large size in no time just adding to the mess that already you havea snail would be better and yes like the others said get a biger tank your over stocking. will lead to a lot more mess which leads to killing of fish….. if you keep a eye on craigslist people give them a way sometimes a 50 gal would be better and heres a site that can help you in many fish keeping questions… http://www.oscarfish.com

I just want to throw in a warning if you haven’t heard it already DO NOT get a chinese algae eater! When they get older they start to enjoy the taste of other fish. With that said, I’m sure you will find something to suite you! plecos aren’t aggressive but can get massive eventually. I don’t know much about snails, personally, but I bet they’re good.
