I have some slate rock that I want to add to my aquarium. I tested it with vinegar and no fizz. but it did turn my water cloudy. can anybody tell me if slate is ok . And any other types that can be found of purchased cheaply. And also a better way to prepare them for the tank

it should be fine if you rinsed it off completly. try stiking to aquarium rocks or even a couple of marble slabs.
I would stick to aquarium rocks as they have been properly treated and they won’t harm your fish. If you do want to use the rocks you have, then go to your aquarium and ask them how you can treat your rocks to make them safe for your fish. You will probably need to leave them soak in some hot water for a few days, this will prevent your tank water from clouding when they are added. Add in some aquarium salt to the water as well.
some slate rocks are safe and we baked are slate rocks in the oven also bought river rocks for home depot washed and used them cheaper and bigger than that gravel crap they sell at pet stores plus better maintains the biosystem of the tank slate rocks will cloud up water for about a day just let it sit
