what kind of rocks can I used in my aquarium with cichlids?

I have a large aquarium and cichlids and want to have a massive cave like formation and was wondering if I could purchase lava rock and sand them down so they are not so rough and then glue them together with Silicone to make their habitat and pretty and healthy one. They enjoy caves, so I want to use stone that isn’t to heavy. Any ideas?

Pet stores also sell a stone called tufa rock…it kind’ve porous and somewhat light. The lava rock is good and lighter then granite. I used that alot and I didn’t need to glue them together Your cichlids will love alot of hiding places! good luck!
what kind of cichlids?
afrcan or new world?
with africans you’ll want to use calcerous rocks that will leech carbonates and buffer the pH…
with new worlds you don’t want that at all
that will work fine. be sure to rinse it and give the silicone time to cure. in my cichlid tank ive used slate, coquina, old clay pots, and coral. most anything will work as long as its clean
you can buy the rocks at pet shops or i got some of mine off the beach and just kept boiling them to clean all the salts out, i also stack slate up in some of my tanks as this can gave a good effect.
