What is the best size aquarium for me?

Hi-
I am planning on ordering a marineland eclipse acrylic aquarium sometime soon. I am debating between the 6 gallon and 12 gallon models (price is not an issue).
I am putting the tank on a 11.5″ wide bookshelf, and want to know which would be the best fit.
The 6 gallon is 7.5″ wide (which would easily fit), but the 12 gallon is exactly 11.5″ wide also.
i definatly do not want this to fall off, but i think it might not be smart to have the tank be as wide as the shelf it will rest on.
What are your opinions? 6 gal 7.5″ or 12 gal 11.5″?
Thanks-
i also know that 12 gallons would open the door for many different types of fish to keep, but i don’t want it to be unsafe.

Hmm… well as long are your not creating a top heavy situation where the book shelf might fall over you should be fine.
I’d go with the 12 gallon, the 6 gallon will really limit the amount of fish you can keep.. all you can keep in the 6 gallon is one Betta..
In the 12 gallon you have so many more options.
7.5 is better so it can be more safer
Get the bigger one, that’s about 50 litres and you could keep some nice small tropicals in there.
Just don’t get goldfish, they need alot more room if they are common, fancies need 50 litres or more, but he’ll be lonely on his own!
You could get some nice guppies, but if you mix males with females you WILL end up with babies in most cases.
Some platys is another idea.
Or just a solitary betta tank with some dwarf frogs or ghost shrimps!
Good luck and remember to cycle you tank!
