Your rena xp3 is a great system and thats all you will need for a 65 gallon. You can add 2 small whisper filters to circulate water better but you should be fine with the rena
The best would probably be the eheim brand canister filters, but the rena XP filters are excellent filters. I also think the XP3 is perfect for a 65 gallon tank. I have an xp3 and xp1 on a 75 gallon and love them.
I like the Rena. It is easy to clean which is quite honestly the best thing to look for in a filter, because if it is hard to clean, it won’t be. It moves a good deal of water and has plenty of room to add media. Good choice.
I would add an air pump with an airstone to break up the surface of the water a bit and add some oxygen, but you’re probably set otherwise.
Rena is good. It is certainly more than enough filter for a 65 gallon tank. You could have gotten away with an XP2. A heck of a lot cheaper than a comparable Fluval filter.
What problems are you having?
Fishguy makes an excellent point; the hard to clean filter won’t be cleaned. I haven’t had many Rena filters but have had good experiences with all that I have owned.

Canisters are great! I’m using it on my aquarium and i’m happy with it.
