What is better and easer to clean. Sand fresh water or gravel.?

I wanna do a good aquarium. i have mine set up now with my wet/dry filter but its getting boring.. i dont know if i wanan clean Sand or stay with Gravel. This is my plan

I want to have a nice aquarium with ALOT of green. nothing colorful just GREEN. i was thinking to go with SAND. or go with Large brow gravel. im looking to get fake plants made from plastic or silk..

Whats better to clean. I know gravel i juse use my Gravel cleaner.. But sand i just have to get a tube in there and clean off the top layer..

Whats better for an aquarium. Sand or gravel. Whats better with what i wanan do.. With the all green thing..
should i do Live plants instead of fake plants…

I know live plants help as another Natural Filter with fish waste and extra food. will it help me keep the tank cleaner.?

i know i need a plant light.. my bulb already has it.
also my tank is a 55 gallon tank with Platnium Convict chichlids and oscars.
what color sand should i get.. ima have alot of green in the tank.

Gravel if your using fake plants however, if you have bar bled fish sand is always better.
For cleaning purposes sand is a pain to clean.

sand is the best. looks good and is much easier to clean. for sand, you only have to clean the top layer, and that’s it, it does not penetrate the sand. with gravel, it goes through the gaps and the muck goes everywhere through the gaps and into the bottom. it will be almost impossible to get rid of all the waste after your tanks been running for a while. also, since the waste on sand doesn’t sink, it gets sucked up by the filter, or the fish pick it up when they are scavenging. sand is definitely the way to go

i have live plants, and while they make the tank look great, after a week they are eaten and you have to replace them constantly. my cichlid tank has fakies and it looks great. live is too much maintenance, and dont worry about plants being a filter in this modern age of high power external filters. also, it does nothing with waste. all it does it create a tiny bit more oxygen.

keep adding dont you… well then if thats your fish, totally rule out live plants. just go for a rocky setup with a few live plants as a contrast. that will work best. dont waste your time and money with a combo of cichlids, oscars and plants

just dont choose the fine sand.. they’re really hard to clean for the reason that they are really tiny like grains.
and the color.. i think you must choose the natural color.. i mean,, an aquarium must be natural lookin.

    thats my opinion..

and in selecting plants… its up to you.. when you feel that you have arranged it well then, thats it.. its a part of the “thrill” thing in having an aquarium, aquarium designing.. isnt it?

and about the helping the tank clean because of the plants.. sometimes plants itself makes the tank dirty, so maybe put a pleco so that the sides of the tank will be cleaned. and also for the algaes will not grow rapidly.

both gravel and sand has equal ups and downs.that would be up to you sand does have more work to it but looks better go to ratemytank.com for ideas.with my planted tank i found its a bit harder to keep live plants in because they just dont have any thing to hang on to. so i did a lot of planting. it takes more than a plant light to grow live plants and just not watts your looking a kelvin rateing also there is co2 also liquid ferts and tabs i also use flourite as a substrate not regualer rock you can use eco complette for sustrate also. i would read up on the aquarium plant lighting save s a lot of money i didnt do it and lost a lot of money trying to figure it out. as far as your fish go i would say a planted tank is not the best they will up root and tear plants up up rooting and planting them over to much will kill them. i would say imo is sand with rocks and some silk plants that would go great with your fish combo with little keep up you can use silicon to glue rocks together for scaping and cave making i seen tanks like this and they look great.
