What is an ideal temperature for a tropical fish tank?
by Aquaboy on Wednesday, March 17th, 2010 | 19 Comments
Been told so many different temperatures, whats the average temperature for a tropical fish tank?????? should it be room temperature or slightly higher or lower???
are these temperatures in farenheit or celsius??????? one answer states degrees c, but others dont!
ignore that comment, just realised that 75 celsius is more likely to fry the fish than keep them healthy! sorry, blonde moment!

76-79 is where i keep mine at.
Disucs love high temperature , but most aquarium have temperature of 72-78degrees.
I have guppies in one of mine, and with their tendency towards ich (female guppies, when preggers are prone to being chilled, and thus contracting ich) I run mine a little hot, usually 80-82.
My aggressive tank is kept lower, about 76-78.
But on average, any were from 76-80 is fine. But you have to give a little leeway, if it’s 75 or 82, they won’t die. It’s just best to have it around 76-80.
Best of Luck!
76-80 degrees. But thats a general guideline. Some fish have special requirements. You might want to research the specific kind if fish you are planning on keeping and go from there.
the fish tank should be a little under room temperature
72-82 degrees is within normal range but it all depends on what type of fish you have. Some tropicals prefer a little on the lower end, some prefer the higher end.
78
Depends on the fish you are keeping.
Some prefer cooler, some warmer, some can handle a wide range. Thats why you are seeing so many different temperatures.
Also room temperatue is pretty vauge.. is your room 18C or 28C? BIG difference.
Some ‘tropical’ fish can live at 18C (Hillstream loaches and rosy barbs). Others need to be up around 28C (Discus)
If you are keeping common tropical fish, then set your tank temp for about 25C (77F). That will be in the OK range for most of them.

Anywhere between 75 and 80 degrees is ideal, as long as you never go below 70 or above 85. Some fish, though, prefer different temperatures (for example, discus prefer temperatures of about 80, while bettas can handle 70). Look up the fish that you have or plan to have to see what they prefer.
Well I’ve got tropical fish 8 Platys (grew from born babies), 5 X-ray Tetra’s, 6 (3 male 3 female) Barbs and used to have a dwarf gourami and the temperature my fish are kept atis around 74-76 (75 degreees C being the average) and the fish seem content with it.
Hope this helps =]
Room temperature is generally in the lower 70s, what is considered “sub-tropical” for aquaria. Goldfish, danios, minnows, and the like should be kept at room temperature.
Tropical fish tanks can be kept anywhere from 75 to 82, depending on your various fish’s needs, the size of your tank, your ability to heat your tank, and your starting temperature.
75-80F and thats an insult to blondes
Though it depends on the species you have also breeding tank has temperature requirement. for most of the tropical species anything between 75 to 80 F is good. make sure you do a little research about species that you going to keep.

Generally you are safe from 76 – 82 F. Some fish like it warmer, some are colder… but that’s the general temperature for most fish… I always try to keep my tropical tanks at like 78.
it depends my fish are all happy when the temp. is exactly at 77 degrees, here are my fish
dojo loach
guppies
dwarf gourami
balloon mollies
bosemans rainbows
red rainbows
raphael catfish
but i would guess a general guidline would be around 75-82 degrees, but i base my temprature on my fishes pesonality, you can actually tell!
mine used to stay close to 80
77 to 80 is usually the ideal temperature range.
Yep, 75C will give you fish fingers.
But 79-83F will keep them healthy and prevent the dreaded Ich.
Good luck!
i have new tank tropical fish so what fish can i put in to get me start
