Why would you want fish? You can not interact with them and they don’t cheer you up. All they do it raise your electric bill and your shopping bill, and every 1-5 years, your water bill.
Possibly glofish or guppies.
A single goldfish needs more than 10 gallons…You could go one of 4 ways about the 55 Gallon…
1. Community: guppies, mollies, platys, swordtails, tetras…
2. Cichlid: various types of these
3. Single species: something as simple as goldfish, or something like oscars or spotted gar or puffer fish
4. Saltwater: saltwater species…
guppys
platys
i hate mollys
I’ve been keeping goldfish for years and am constantly doing research about them to care for them optimally. One goldfish needs at least 10 gal, preferally 20 for the first fish and 10 gal for each additional fish. Also, you cannot keep betta with goldfish. Goldies are coldwater fish, bettas are tropical and need a heater. Goldies need more oxygen in their water via an airstone or bubble wall. Bettas don’t need much water movement. There really are no compatible tankmates for either goldies or bettas. They should be kept in a species only tank.
If I were you, I would keep the betta in the 10 gal tank by himself and put the goldies in the 55 and maybe add one more. Overstocking your aquariums make it harder to keep the water parameters perfect. High levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are toxic to the fish.
I have a 30 gal tank with two fancy goldfish in it; a ten gal tank with one crowntail betta; a 23 gal community tank with five african dwarf frogs, 6 serpae tetras and a platy; and a 65 gal tank with four angels, two dwarf gouramies, two platys, two mystery snails, one raphael catfish and a rainbow shark. I also always keep a 15 gal quarantine tank cycled and running with two mystery snails in it.
I do a 50% water change in each tank every week and also test the water with an API master test kit every week to make sure to keep on top of my parameters and to keep the fish healthy.
How many goldfish do you have. A 10 gallon is too small for them. You can have 1 common goldfish (max length 30cm) in a 55 gallon or 4 fancy goldfish. Bettas need heated water unlike goldfish so put him in the 10 gallon and add a few kuhlis or a couple of platies.
