What is a good mix of mid, top and bottom dwellers for a 55 gallon freshwater tank?

I am planning to get a 55 gallon freshwater tropical community fish tank. i have been looking at some different types of fish but am having difficulty trying to process all the info. there is just so much out there. I am newish so don’t want anything impossible to keep but just some nice, beautiful fish, a community fish tank
please help all ideas are wanted
small type fish
if possible please be as specific as possible, and up to about 3 inches in max length, lots of colorful fish is nice

big fish? small fish? if you want some tetras then a nice group of neons would be great, maybe 15-20 neon tetra, and then some corys for the bottom a couple female bettas or a dwarf gourami. im a fan of small fish even in my familys 55 and 100gs.
Try going to liveaquaria.com to compare temperature requirements, aggressive and adult sizes.
I agree with both of those answers. but you might want to consider the “one inch of fish per gallon” rule. It just helps to keep your tank clean and healthy. So again, look at the adult size of each fish you are aiming to buy.
