What exactly are those floating moss balls for?

I went to the local aquarium plant nursury in my neighborhood and a man was buying ‘floating moss balls’ for his aquarium. He told me that Plecos are supposed to like them, but I don’t know if this is true.
Does anyone know if it is safe [and non-water contaminating] to put a couple of them into my large freshwater community tank?
They’re for decoration and the enjoyment of having nature in your home. Whether or not the Pleco will eat them depends largely on what kind of moss balls they are. Marimo Moss Balls are actually a very non-invasive algae that control their own bouyancy and grow fast enough to use up nitrate and phosphate at a reasonable pace. Unfortunately, many pet stores like Petco have begun to sell rolled up Java Moss as “moss balls”. Plecos will eat Marimo Moss Balls, but will generally leave Java Moss untouched. These are both safe for fish.
idk if your talking about japanese moss balls but i think those sink, and i know shrimp like them because there like magnets attracting uneaten food and other things
