you will need to continue to feed snails as it helps wear down their teeth. without that their teeth will grow and grow. on larger puffers keepers can trim the teeth, but not on dwarfs.

they will also eat bloodworm and other live/frozen food. they won’t take pellet or flake willingly.

oh, and they are 100% freshwater, they will tolerate low level salinity, but freshwater in the long term. sorry, couldn’t help myself.

Snails are fine. Just don’t put more than 1 in at a time because if the dwarf puffer dosen’t eat all of them the snails, they will multiply quickly like what happened in mine. Other food choices can be live or frozen krill, or you can feed it frozen blood worms or white mosquito larvae.

He should be fine with frozen or live bloodworms, brineshrimp, Ghost Shrimp, or frozen seafood like mussels, clams, or most white fish. They are freshwater fish, so what you’re doing is slowly killing it. On top of that, they are scaleless, so they have trouble with osmoregulation to begin with… adding salt to the water will simply suck the water right out of them over time. If you let it go, it will live a severely shortened life.
