What do I need for my aquarium?

I want to know all the accessories I’d need for a 150 gallon tank. I want it to be self sustaining, so plants (any suggestions?) bugs (any suggestions?) and fish. I want to know the stuff I’d need, for example, pump, skimmer, do i need a special lamp? UV Sterilizers??? Links to ebay Items are the BEST

could this work for both pump and skimmer?
btw – is an aerator the same as a pump?

Thank you so much for your help. This is for a school project.

If your looking to have a “self sustaining” marine aquarium, It will cost you alot of money for the equipment really. Aside from the tank itself you’ll need a sump which is a partitioned secondary tank hidden but still attached to the main tank. The protien skimmer, algea(for food) and co2 are put in this sump tank. What lighting depends on the coral or anenomes that will be introduced to the tank. Metal hallides are better for reaching deeper parts of the tank but run very hot were florecents are the opposite.

You’ll still need to stay on top of things because the less water changes that you have to make the more levels of say calcium will drop. Salinity will change as the water evaporates(especially with hallides) and until you get the chemistry of the tank perfect(usually takes pros 6 to 8 months) nitrates will still accumulate regardless of the plant life you’ll have.

So really there is no self sustaining tanks unless they’re maintained robotically!
