    I remember them… they’re called “Elephant-nosed” fish.
Black, flat bodies with a “Y” looking type of tail… also had a band of gray at the base of the tail.
They’re hard to keep though. Very susceptible to disease and other fish love to peck at them if you have a community tank.

Elephant noses probably what you’re talking about. I’ve had them, they’re really neat & can be personable, but hard to care for. They’re also scaleless, so no salt and you need to be careful with meds used in the tank. They need a hiding place or one of those plastic tubes, and that’s pretty much all they do, guess they come out at night. You cannot keep them with the black knife fish, because they both have an electrical “sensor” they use to find food. They’d end up killing each other. Mine would only eat blood worms and brine shrimp, and I had to reach in and hand it to him otherwise he wouldn’t get it. I had mine in a community tank, he did fine in there, no one picked on him. Mine ended up dying after a few months, I think it was a fungus, was hard to tell because he kept hiding. They’re wild caught, then brought in to the country. Some places/countries use them for something or other with checking water treatments at the plants. That’s all I can think of, not a whole lot of info on them I’ve found.
