What are some safe freshwater aquarium D.I.Y. decoration materials?

I currently have one Rainbow Shark named Colby in a 10 gallon aquarium and I thought it would be fun to make all of it’s decorations on my own. I am a bit of an artist so I want to try and make each one a work of art. The only problem is.. I don’t know what materials would be safe to use in an aquarium. I’m looking for materials that you could easily buy at a craft store. Also, What types of glue would be safe to use? Would generic hot glue work? Elmer’s? Any ideas would be appreciated too!

I like this DIY aquarium cave- http://aquarium.shuru.com/DIY%20Aquarium%20Cave%20Page%201.htm

I’ve also used aquarium sealant to glue together polished river stones to create archways.

Please use aquarium safe sealant, and upgrade tanks in the near future.

D.I.Y. is always fun, but there are very few materials safe to use in an aquarium. Here are some of my recommendations:
    -Natural rocks
    -PVC pipe decorations
-Safe glue: coral glue from a local pet aquarium store
    Good luck!

most hot glues would work fine stay away from paints of anykind
most plastics and glass will be fine provided they do not have sharp edges also use natural rocks stay away from woods that aren’t intended for use in aqueriums allready since they may be treated

This is interesting since I just made two DIY caves last night out of terracotta flower pots. My fiance and I broke the bottoms out of two flower pots and then used aquarium silicon to cover the sharp edges. Then we decorated them with some glass gems (that you find in betta bowls usually) and some fake plants. They look amazing and the fish absolutely love them! Its a pretty fun project but a little time consuming.
