I like Redtail sharks (Labia bi-color) These are freshwater “sharks” that are actually in the minnow family. They thrive well in aquariums with driftwood and many different kinds of other fish. They feed on algae mainly and driftwood looks good and does much to support algae growth.

When looking for sharks/catfish you really need to do your homework because most of them get larger than your average fish tank can handle.
I would recommend that you go to your local pet place with a notepad and write down all the names of the shark like fish they carry. Then go home and do some research like how large to they get, how long can they live for, what kind of food they eat exc. Pick the one that best fits your situation. This way you don’t have to worry about the fish and it’s compatibility with your set up.

The only types of sharks you can get in a regular aquarium would be Redtail Sharks (4 inches) and Rainbow Sharks (6 inches). Keep in mind that they are pretty aggressive and should be the ONLY shark in the tank.

Also, keep in mind that they would each need to be housed in a 40-50 gallon tank minimum.

Do NOT get a bala shark or any kind of iridescent shark – they can grow up to 18 inches and they like to be in schools.
