Very Pissed off Royal Gramma Saltwater Fish

www.ourfishies.com – We just introduced a six line wrasse to our saltwater reef tank. The six line wrasse kept exploring where the Royal Gramma “calls home.” The royal gramma and all of the other saltwater fish decided that they should pick on the new fish in the tank, and the royal gramma kept chasing the wrasse with his mouth wide open. wow the one on finding nemo was never this viscous lol

Bad advice. Fishes brains don’t work like that, one the invisible force field is gone it will continue to attack as before. Given space they are fine. Also keeping them in a confined space for a month is asking for death by stress.

Royal grammas are peaceful until anything goes neer their chosen hole. Then it will open its mouth HUGE in a display to chase the fish off.

@SoulXsLayer put the royal gramma in a bug container and place it in the aquarium with a powerhead blowing directly on it (for water circulation and to prevent build up of ammonia)this will allow the gramma to see the tank and tankmates but if it charges at one it will be stopped. leave in there normaly feeding it for 2-4weeks and it will probaly calm down. if its still bullying continue the bug container period for another 2-4 weeks if it dosent work….. get a new gramma

A few days ago I had to relocate my royal gramma to another tank due to him bullying my pair of new clowns. I wonder if it’s ever safe to put him back into the community tank, I miss him =[. Any one got suggestions?

Sixlines, next to damsels, are probably one of the most aggressive small fish in the saltwater trade. In your next tank, if you choose to add one, add the sixline last.

haha I love how in this vid the RG doesn’t like the sixline, but doens’t mind the damsel stopping in to say hi. lol

I just added a 6-line wrasse too and found my Royal Gramma dead today too. 28 gallon nano reef.

    That is very disturbing…

Get a solorensis/ aka red eyed or blue wrasse, you won’t be disappointed . Beautiful and friendly reef safe wrasse. Good luck.

u should try to rearrange some of your life rock becaue it’s probably doing that for domince and by rearrange the rock they hav an equal time to restablish territory

i had a problem similar to this with my yellow tang and coral beauty. they either get over it or dont mine didnt thats why im bringing the coral beauty back best of luck though

hey brother…im having the opposite problem..my six line wrasse harrases my royal gramma…..its ben two days since i introduced them and the gramma hides i the upper corner avoiding the live rock areas because the six line wrasse harrases me…..what will eventually happen??? thanks…

thats a nice piece of colt coral you have

Did they end up being okay together? I have a pretty similar tank. My Royal Gramma was showing the same open-mouth behavior toward my Yellow-tail Blue Damsel. I really want a Six Line but I’m getting mixed messages about their aggression.

  18. Speedburner899 says:

the fish are agressive twords each other because they look too similar. Bicolor blennys are known to attack royal grammas because they look very similar, etc, etc.

I had the same thing in my old tank except it was a 4 line wrasse and he killed my gramma. He tore his jaw and then the poor guy wedge himself into a rock and died.
