Sounds like ich. Marine ich can be tricky and may or may not affect all of your fish. Remember ich is a parasite not a disease.
If you have inverts in the tank you need to treat with an invert safe ich med designed for marine tanks. The best I have ever found was Ruby Reef’s kick ich. You need to turn the skimmer off when treating.
Follow the directions for your tank. Marine ich is a bit more hearty than fresh water ich so treatment can take up to 21 days to totally cure.
Also, be sure your tang is on a proper diet and allow the algae in the tank to build. Supplement his diet with fresh greens as well.
If you question ik or any thing else strange in tank. I would pull out another tank, or bowl and let him sit alone for a while to see how he adjusts. Some people have a small 5 gal for their sick tank. Do not go to big expense, a large bowl with a filtering system in it would help him. But get him away from the healthy guys or he could spread.
Ik is very contageous, also it is white spots and they multiply.
