Would this be a good Aquarium Set up?

Question by Nick: Would this be a good Aquarium Set up?
I have a 55 gallon, with sand and decor. I currently have 7 Tiger barbs, 2 gouramis, 3 Albino Corydoras, and 5 Gold barbs.
If I return the 3 Cory’s and give away a Gourami.
Would I be albe to get 5 Cherry barbs?
So I would have 1blue gourami, 7 Tiger barbs, 5 Gold barbs, and 5 Cherry barbs.
Im going for a All barb Freshwater Tank, since Barbs are very Hardy, never had one die on me, not even in extreme conditions! (That does not mean Im going to stop daily maintanance of my fish tank)And because the Tigers just pick on everything else I get, except other barbs, they seem to get along fine with the Gold barbs, its like they know theyre from the same familiy, just different barb species.
Anyways, what you guys think? Or if I get rid of both gouramis and the COrys.
What other barb combination can I make?? Thanks!!

You should be able to add them without get rid any of your fish. Your tank is like 89% stocked so it should be fine. But monitor the new fish and observe them well and see what is happening.

Good Luck!

Taken during an afternoon trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in Monterey, California. Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area!

One of the fish in one of the big tanks pops up to greet the many onlookers. :)

I typically upload in small sets – don’t just look at the latest one in my photostream as you might be missing something you’ll like more…. and your comments are ALWAYS welcome :)

Who Would You Report A Pet Store To?

I recently checked out a pet store in my area and here’s what I found.
Bettas in brown water
Filthy fish tanks
Aggressive and terrified birds. Their wings looked like they were clipped with safety scissors, they were shredded! Their birds were very skinny. Their tiels were grossly overpriced, and sick. Claiming they are hand fed when they are aggressive and terrified. They are kept in tiny finch cages with no toys.
There was a sick newt drying out in a fish bowl.
The worst, they had a ton of puppies. It just screamed puppy mill! They had wire under their paws. Tiny, dirty cages. The puppies were mixed breeds, and being sold for $700. The pups were skinny, dirty, and too young to be away from mom.
I felt so bad for these animals. It w disgusting.
Who can I call? I saw other reviews similar to mine online as well.

Special Skills And Or Qualifications That Would Help You Here?

Hey I’m trying to get a job at an aquarium store that I really want to be at and there’s a question on the application that says “Please list any special skills and or qualifications that would help you here” and I know alot about fish and different animals but I don’t know how to put it to make it sound profesional? If you get it? So any ideas? Thanks

Biology Lab Help. Please, I Would Like Your Help!?

1.Use a large glass or Plexiglas container and thoroughly rinse it. Silicone adhesive sealant may be used with glass plates to design your own container.
2.Add about one inch of washed gravel, sand, and/or rock to the bottom layer, followed by a 1/4 inch of aquarium charcoal, and at least two or more inches of potting soil.
3.Water should be added when moisture stops condensing on the glass. Not much water (1/2 cup) is needed in a partially closed terrarium.
4.Obtain ideas from your teacher, family, or plant specialist in your area and plant some plants in the soil. Some plants you may wish to select are aluminum plants, prayer plants, frost-lining plants, peperomia, small philodendrons, ferns, ivy, palms, or selaginella. Be creative.
5.Experiment with the growth and well-being of your plants by revising some of the five factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis in plants. Some examples include depriving one plant of water or sunlight and observing its growth in comparison to the other plants.
6.Then respond to the following questions:
a.What happens in the light reaction of photosynthesis?
b.What happens in the dark reaction of photosynthesis?
c.What five factors affect photosynthesis and its rate? Provide an example from your experiment.

Would It Be A Mistake Adding These Fish To My Community Tank!!!!? Please Answer?

hi. i have a 75 gallon aquarium with plenty of drift wood, hidng places, plants, and plenty of room to swim.
i was looking into getting 3-5 boesemani rainbow fish to add to my community tank!
the fish i currently have in my tank are..
2 male dwarf gouramis, albino bristlenose plecos, 7 gold tetras(the male are pretty small), 5 cardinal tetras, 5 albino cherry barbs, like 10 cories, very sizes of platties, new born to adult,(only 3 adults), and then 4 male guppies, OH AND ALSO 3 CHERRY SHRIMP.
i only have concerns with the rainbows eating my small male tetras(females are bigger), and my cherry shrimp. at full size, would the rainbows eat them?
i really dont want my cherry shrimp to be eaten cuz there were 3.99 each for that little thing. and i barely see them except when the are on the drift wood, so they still could eat them.
is there any other worries i should have if i get these?
i tend to not trust bigger fish becasue of the fact they could eat my little fish so i would only want to get like 3-5 of these fish. maybe start with 4 and then mayb get more if everything works out?!
i remember looking on a website where you have to put a certain amount of male with females so if i got 4 boesemani rainbows, what is the male to female ratio i should get?
if these wont work.. could i get a pair of pearl gouramis?

I’m Planning On Getting Fish. It’d Be A First Time Fish. Where Would You Recommend I Start?

Just to clarify, these are the tank kind of fish I’m wanting not the eating kind.
How much would you say it’d cost to keep a small/medium sized aquarium per year? What kind of fish would you recommend for someone just starting out with fish? What about tank size? Some sort of companionship?
I’m not sure I know all the questions to ask so by all means tell me whatever you think necessary.

How Would These Fish Do In A 10 Gallon Aquarium?

I am helping my son start up a ten gallon aquarium he got for his birthday (he just turned 8, if that’s relevant). My son and I have both had experience with freshwater fish, but not a tank this small. Will four guppies (all male, so no breeding), two dwarf frogs, and a small algae eater fit in this aquarium? What kind of algae eater do you recommend for such a small aquarium? How often does a tank this size need to be cleaned? My son is really looking forward to having his own pets to take care of, and I want to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible.
