Here’s the details;
Skit is my turtle and he may be just over 2 inches.
He has a 10 gallon glass aquarium that is filled with 3-4 inches of water.
His basking platform is placed under the heat lamp.
He has a whisper 2-15 gallon filter.
He has been in the above tank for 2 days now. Before, he lived with my five 3 inch goldfish in the same sized tank, filled to the top with water.
The tank had a flat piece of wood that I found outside and added to the tank as a basking platform.
The tank did not have a heating lamp.
Problem:
My turtle has not eaten anything for at least 5 days now. I’ve had him for almost 3 months. He’s never had problems eating until now. He was eating ReptoMin Baby for all of his life in captivity. I ran out of that food a couple weeks ago, and I began to replace it with his favorite snack- Canadian Night Crawler or worms. He got a fourth of one each day. Then, I got some more food, but it wasn’t the same. Skit would attempt to eat it and spit it back out again. A day or two later, he would refuse to eat at all. Only when I offered him worms would he eat. Now, just about 3 days ago, he stopped eating anything. I had been concerned by his eating habits so I offered him another quarter worm. He didn’t touch it. He now refuses anything to eat, live or dead.
Strange things for my turtle:
-Not eating
-Twitching of the head (When I offered him another worm today as a trick to try and get him to eat again, his head was twitching… almost like he was flinching, only just to the side or up and right back again. )
-Different sleeping habits (He spends his time being lazy and sleeping on the basking rock, right now, I found him hanging off the basking rock and closing his eyes underwater)
Please, any help would be welcome, I’m getting worried. Don’t be afraid to ask me a question. I’ll answer it as best as I can.. Does anyone out there think this could be the result of a head or neck injury?
(I don’t know the water or basking temp.. I don’t have anyway of measuring them.)
