Hi I’ve got a 40galln tank with water 15″ from bottom to top of glass, if I put a shelf in and take 1″ of water down, Wud that b alright, plus are turtles filfthier than fish ?
Do turtles pee and how often will I need to clean my tank-
I’ve tried feeding my turtle everything.. lettuce, fish, worms, turtle food, apples, cantaloupe.. anything that I could find in my refrigerator. But all she likes to eat is shrimp, boiled eggs, and ham!! I realize this is not good for her (the eggs and ham) but she won’t eat anything else. I tried to feed her Riley’s Reptile Sticks but she won’t even go near them. Is there any other turtle food she might eat? The turtle I had before her was fine with Reptile Sticks. Please help!!! I don’t want her to get sick. and please don’t tell me that she’s not supposed to be eating what I’m feeding her, I know. I’m worried.
Somebody please help. I bought a new 5ft fish tank for my two yellow bellied turtles just over 4 months ago. It was crystal clear for the first two months but all of a sudden the water started turning green. I have had my turtles for nearly 3 years and never seen it happen before. Within a couple of days of cleaning the tank the water was green again. Iv been looking for advice on the net which included, partial water changes every few days, algaecide, reducing amount of food, i even bought live plants which the turtles demolished in hours. The only other thing I can find is to do a blackout, basically covering the tank from all light for a few days. The only problem is turtles need light for their shells to grow and to digest food. So Iam out of ideas, if anyone has been in the same situation and found a solution please help. Because I cant take much more!!!! thanks
My 125 Gallon turtle tank. Home made canopy, overflow and wet dry bucket trickle filter system, low maintenance and very clean. Three red eared slider turtles with minnows, chinese algae eaters, guppies, tetras. Built entire system for about 0, got tank and stand almost free off craigs list, had to reenforce stand and paint black to match decor. Rocks I got from construction left overs (free). They love their new basking area and large area to swim around. Tank is undersized by 15 – 25 gallons of water since its 10 gal for every inch of turle so next tank will need to be bigger once they grow a bit more. There is currently about 90 gallons of water in the tank and 50 between refugium and sump. I should have more swimming area and will in future builds but for now they are happy.
Right now I have to RES, probably about 6 months old, a little more. (not sure exact age when I bought them) I have them in a 55 gallon tank with two algee eaters. I wan’t to add more water to the tank so they and the fish have more room to swim and dive. But I need to raise my basking platform. It is a rock platform that has a filter. It is probably about 5 pounds in weight all together. The only thing I can think of would be to put two bricks under it (throughly cleaned of course) but I do not really wanna put bricks into a glass fish tank. Someone suggested wood. but I figured that will swell and maybe hurt them if they bite off splinters of it. So does anyone have any ideas about what I could do to raise the platform safely.
Well i got it about 4 months ago. And i was keeping it in a portable tank with enough room to swim and bask. Then a month or so later it started not swimming really and just floating or sitting on its basking area. so i thought it was just tired of being cramped up in that cage thing. So i bought a 10 gallon aquarium and got it a ” Turtle dock” for basking. And its behavior has not changed at all. Oh and he hasn’t grown really at all its pretty much the same size as he was when i got it.
A video showing step-by-step what’s in Squirt’s tank, how it’s set-up, what his basking area is made of, what lights I use, what sand I use, ect. Informative if you’re looking to see how to properly set up a hatchling or juvinile turtle. This is, obviously, not Squirt’s final set-up. As he gets bigger, Squirt will be moved into a 125 gallon tank, as red ear sliders can grow quite large. His water temp will decrease as he gets older as well, as adults like their water around 74-76 degree’s. Video Rating: 5 / 5
i had a blonde moment and went to feed my turtle and beta fish and poured the beta fish food in the turtle tank. i grabbed my fish net and scooped as much out as i could but she ate some. will she be ok?
