Are those “starter kit” {brand ‘Premium} aquariums worth it?

Question by Auntie Marie SueB: Are those “starter kit” {brand ‘Premium} aquariums worth it?
Because I heard {on here actually} to buy things seperately. –Esp. the filter. Someone on here recommended an even stronger filter for a tank that is typically used to help clean it even better.
At Petco last night saw a nice 29g glass tank kit called “Premium” brand for $ 139. It inc. everything needed to start. ect.
Is this advisable to get a starter kit?
a fish newbie obviously,heehee

What are those striped fish called? tiger fish?

Question by Yelena: What are those striped fish called? tiger fish?
I see these fish all the time in different tanks (usually larger tanks) and need to know the name of them. I am hoping they are suitable for a smaller tank because I think they are absolutely gorgeous and don’t have room for a large one! They are black and orange usually (striped like a tiger) but thinner and smaller than the “tiger barb” variation, which is all I could find online.

Anyone know what kind of fish I am describing? Thanks!
No, not the tiger barb…. this kind of fish I am trying to find has many more stripes than the barb, which only has three stripes (it seems)

How Much Water Would I Need For Either A Single Or Two Goldfish To Survive In? I Have One Of Those Big?

over-sized martini type fish bowls. I would plan on putting greenery and pebbles on the bottom. I would not be using any kind of pump system so I would be glad to change the water daily if I had to. So, again in summary, I need to know the answers to the following questions. I do not want to do anything that would put my fish (one or two) in harms way. Here are the questions:
1) How big a fish bowl (water content) do I need for a single goldfish, or perhaps two goldfish?
2) Are there any other kind of small fish that would do better in a small fishbowl?
3) Without any sophisticated pump or other paraphernalia is changing the bowl on a regular basis
be safe — and if so, how many times a week should I change the water?
4) Would putting aquarium pebbles and greenery help the fish enjoy life/survive?
5) Does the water have to be a certain temperature and can it be water from the tap – or is bottled
water healthier? Aren’t there tablets you can drop in the fishbowl to neutralize the water, making
it safe for the fish?
Thanks so much for your input/answers to all the questions — I just want whatever fish I have to be happy and healthy. Any advice or even constructive criticism is welcome.

Do You Agree This Is One Of Those Poems That Should Be Read By Everyone?

Miracles.
by Walt Whitman
WHY! who makes much of a miracle?
As to me, I know of nothing else but miracles,
Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan,
Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky,
Or wade with naked feet along the beach, just in the edge of the
water,
Or stand under trees in the woods,
Or talk by day with any one I love—or sleep in the bed at night with
any one I love,
Or sit at table at dinner with my mother,
Or look at strangers opposite me riding in the car,
Or watch honey-bees busy around the hive, of a summer forenoon,
Or animals feeding in the fields,
Or birds—or the wonderfulness of insects in the air,
Or the wonderfulness of the sun-down—or of stars shining so quiet
and bright,
Or the exquisite, delicate, thin curve of the new moon in spring;
Or whether I go among those I like best, and that like me best—
mechanics, boatmen, farmers,
Or among the savans—or to the soiree—or to the opera,
Or stand a long while looking at the movements of machinery,
Or behold children at their sports,
Or the admirable sight of the perfect old man, or the perfect old
woman,
Or the sick in hospitals, or the dead carried to burial,
Or my own eyes and figure in the glass;
These, with the rest, one and all, are to me miracles,
The whole referring—yet each distinct, and in its place.
To me, every hour of the light and dark is a miracle,
Every cubic inch of space is a miracle,
Every square yard of the surface of the earth is spread with the
same,
Every foot of the interior swarms with the same;
Every spear of grass—the frames, limbs, organs, of men and women,
and all that concerns them,
All these to me are unspeakably perfect miracles.
To me the sea is a continual miracle;
The fishes that swim—the rocks—the motion of the waves—the ships,
with men in them,
What stranger miracles are there?

I’m thinking of getting one of those small novelty fish aquariums, actually one small enought to fit on my …

… desk. It’s about 5 gallons. How many fish can fit in that size and be healthy? I was hoping 4, one of which will be the resident gold fish. What other breeds of fish can survive together in a small environment like the one I am thinking of purchasing ?

do those little bubbler things help aerate a fish tank or are they just there to be decorative?

im not sure what their called though..sorry

Is it worth buying one or should I not bother?
