Would this be a good tank for a pair of rams?

A few days ago I got two Bolivian rams and acclimated them to my 55 gallon tank with a bunch of tiger barbs, a kissing gourami, some catfish, and a polypterus. The barbs wouldn’t leave them alone, so I set up a 20 gallon long aquarium with just live plants and some flat rocks. All the gravel had been used in a tank for a few months, and had only been taken down two days before being set back up and the gravel not got dry, so it shouldn’t take too long for it to cycle. In the tank right now, I’ve got a female betta and an assassin snail. There’s two Fluval U1 filters, which are each good for up to 15 gallons and are pretty much power sponge filters, so little fish can’t get trapped in. The rams have been coloring up really well in the 55, and the barbs aren’t bothering them anymore, but they seem to have paired up, and I know they’re opposite genders. Should I move them before they spawn and all their babies get eaten, or should I wait a little longer so as to not stress them out too much?
The tank they’re in now doesn’t really have anywhere for them to spawn except the polypterus’s cave in the back right corner: http://www.photoshop.com/accounts/7e65b911989a48318e76f8afa245fad3/px-assets/b1815a428a9449328b994f9f8dd6c77c

And this is the tank I recently set up for them: http://www.photoshop.com/accounts/7e65b911989a48318e76f8afa245fad3/px-assets/7a57914d8b5b4643b8c0d56ae3e7bafc

I can take the betta out and put her somewhere else if I need to.
The bichir is about 5″ long right now.

Fish experts, does this sound like I overdosed on fish medicine? If so what should I do?

On Monday, September 21, I started using Melafix and Pimafix. I have a 15 gallon freshwater tank that holds 12 gallons.

I think two days ago I medicated the tank twice. I put a teaspoon of Melafix and Pimafix in the tank during the afternoon. During the night I put the same amount in the tank.

One of my fish which already looked like something was wrong with it before the treatment, died yesterday. Today there was a fish that was hiding behind the filter. I unplugged the filter and the fish came out from behind.

It later tried to jump out of the water and it got stuck inside the tank on the glass, between the area where the water and the top of the tank is. I pushed it back in.

It was having trouble swimming. Later it died.

For the next treatment should I use less? If so how much should I use and for how long? This is a seven day treatment and this is my fifth day. Both medicines say to use 1 teaspoon for every ten gallons of aquarium water.
I am treating them for tailrot.
I siphoned out six gallons of fish water this Sunday. Then on Monday I decided to keep three gallons of water so it will have the beneficial bacteria in it, so I took out three gallons from the tank and added three gallons of fresh water in the tank after I put stress coat in the three gallons I put in the tank.
I am keeping the water I took out to put the fish in goldfish bowls because I am cleaning out the whole tank due to overcrowding after treatment.
I will put a biological booster after cleaning out the whole tank in the tank.
Anyway I wonder if the first fish died because of the three more gallons taken out on Monday.
I know both meds can be used together because Pimafix says it can be used with Melafix.
I did remove the cartridge from the filter like the instructions say.
I also know the tailrot is from bacteria due to overcrowding because the tails have rotted jagged and I read about it on a website. These meds treat for bacteria you guys.

Can I use this to cycle my fish tank?

It’s been running (after a full cleaning (other fish moved to another tank)) for 3 days now. Its 10 gallons. I will be getting 3 dwarf puffers…. the pet store that sells them are quite a ways away from my house but we will be going up their this weekend. can i buy my puffers? i know they are sensitive to a tank that isn’t cycled… we have this stuff called “CYCLE” that says:

more nitrifiers
keeps aquarium healthy
rapidly matures new aquariums

will this help my tank, so i can get them this weekend? i normally dont wait any time to get fish=never had a problem within 5 yrs of fish keeping

How To Treat This Goldfish Wound?

About two months ago my mom brought home four goldfish from the hotel she works at. Long story short, they decided to have goldfish as a banquet centerpiece but provided no proper water treatment and were handled very wrongly.
Three died that night even after they were carefully tended to, from what, after some studying, I learned were infected wounds. The survivor looked healthy enough, apart from a very tiny wound by the base of his tail, (where the dorsal fin ends).
I knew very little about fish then, and thought it would just get better itself since it was so small. The day after I went to a pet store and got a half gallon fish bowl. I later learned that this won’t be good for long, but at present it’s better than a vase and we can’t afford anything bigger.
By a month later the wound was very much larger and red, with a bit of puffy white around it. I was recommended to an enzyme fortified aquarium salt. I at first changed half of the water every day, adding the right amount of salt each day.
Now you can barely see any red at all, but there’s a pea sized clump of white fluff on the skin. It doesn’t affect the fish’s movement or behavior, but it worries me. I now clean the whole bowl and gravel once a week more or less, and still add the salt. Of course I have water treatment as well.
Now to the real question: how can I treat the wound? I’ve heard that tea tree oil can help. I want to spend as little money as possible, and have these things at home:

100% Alcohol
70% Isopropyl Alcohol
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Aquarium Salt

I was wondering if there’s anything out of that that I could use to treat it, and how I would do so. If the above is not useable, what could I use? Is there anything else I can do to help my fish?

Don’t say she’s going to die. She’s not, and that’s just plain rude. I’ve already got almost enough for a larger fish bowl. Leading me to another question: what size of fish bowl should I get?

Please remember that this is a half inch long feeder goldfish, nothing fancy.

Thanks guys!
Thanks for your replies so far! I’m definitely saving up for a filter, and may try a very quick salt dip. I’ll also put the alcohol and oil away. xD I didn’t think it could be useful, but just wanted to put it out there incase.

I had a question about the swabbing thing. I’m not sure how I would swab the little guy, exactly. He’s so tiny and I don’t want to stress him out too much.

I also realized that I have a tank buried in my closet from when I had walking sticks. The bugs. I’m not sure if it’s 10gallon or 20 gallon, but I think I’ll clean it out and set it up. Any tips on that? I’m not sure what cleaning stuff is okay to use on it.

Feel free to post more answers, I’d love to hear more. Thanks for any links you provide. :]
I’ve set up the 10 gallon tank, put gravel at the bottom, installed a cheap-ish in-tank filter, and put the fish in after letting the filter run for a few days.

I was already using water treatment, I’m not that dumb when it comes to fish.

I’ve given the fish two salt dips, which cleans off the fungus, and have been doing what the Melafix bottle tells me to. She seems to be doing better. Is there anything else I should do?

What type of catfish can I put in this tank? Thanks in advance!!! :)?

Hi! :)

I am going to get a 10 gallon guppy tank. (all males)

I would really like to add a catfish, but don’t know what kind is okay.
At first I was thinking Otocinclus because they are really small, but that would end up overcrowding my tank because they need to be in schools of 3-5.

So then I was looking through the different types of catfish on this website: http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/catfish2/ig/Catfish-Profiles/Adolfos-Cory.htm

I came up with Blackfin Cory and Bandit Cory.
Can anyone tell me a little more about them so I can know if they are suitable for my tank?
Do they need to be a schools?

THANKS :)

Is this a suitable stocking for a 55 gallon aquarium?

1. 12 neon tetras
2. 1 angelfish
3. 2 Blue Lyretail killifish
4. 5 panda corys-
5. 2 African dwarf frogs
6. 2 German Blue Ram cichlids
7. 1 firemouth cichlid

I realize that the Firemouth and angelfish might eat my tetras. I have read online of cases that worked and of cases where all the tetras were eaten. Has anyone had any success with keeping them together? I thought I would let my aquarium develop fully and let the neon grow to maximum size, then introduce a juvenile angel and firemouth to get them used to each other. I also have questions about the Blue Rams. They sell for $10 where I live, and I have heard they are very sensitive to water changes. This will be my first tank, and I feel they may be too sensitive to risk $20 for a pair. What are your opinions on them?

I added up all the fish and found the total amount was 46″. I probably won’t add more fish (I could add another firemouth, but I feel it may increase aggressiveness due to their breeding instincts) I thought if I spaced out the tank, and let the angel and firemouth have their territory, my tank will be much less aggressive and easier to maintain.

I plan to have a pH of 7 and a temperature of 80 degrees. I have read that panda corys require a temperature below that range. Would they be fine?

Sorry for the really long question and thank you for helping. If I have a terrible set-up, tell me. This will be my first aquarium and I plan to cycle it soon.
If you have any recommendations of fish I could add or remove, tell me.
Alright, thank you. I will plan to get tiger barbs instead. No frogs either. My tank seems understocked right now, maybe I could add another firemouth?

$65 for this aquarium shipped – good deal?

It’s a 12 gallon NanoCube Original, not the Deluxe. It doesn’t have LED for moonlighting (nighttime viewing) and doesn’t have fans. He says I won’t need fans. It has one 24w lightbulb. He’s also adding a small return pump and heater. I looked at the pictures and it’s in great condition.

Do you think this is a good deal? I’ll be using it for a saltwater setup. Is it a disadvantage not to have the LED lights or fans?
It comes with the hood.

It’s this:

Without the fans and LED lights.

My porcupine puffer has a hump in his back what could this be?

Its not a growth. It looks like his spin is hunched. He eats very little almost nothing. It looks like he is having trouble chewing.
I have a 90 Gallon bow front. My fish guy says the tanks PH and Nitrates look great. I have no fish in the tank picking on him. He sees me and gets excited when I come to the tank and try’s to eat with out much luck.

Please help.
