Q&A: Is styrofoam safe to use INSIDE the aquarium?

Question by Aventurinne: Is styrofoam safe to use INSIDE the aquarium?
I have an acrylic tank that I want to turn into an aquarium. I will be using a box filter with air pump. Problem is, the vibrations of the filter produces quite a racket on the plastic. I was thinking of somehow cutting out a styrofoam base to cushion the filter. Is it aquarium-safe? If not, what other ways are there to cushion the filter?

It is, but over time it can start to break apart and leave annoying pieces of white styrofoam floating all over the place, which you fish might or might not try to eat.

You might try cutting a sponge to fit. I know you can buy big sheets of sponge material at the fish store cheap. It should make a pretty good buffer.

Is Styrofoam Okay To Put In Aquariums?

I want to put a piece Styrofoam on the top of the water so it evenly distributes the water from the filter. It runs pretty hard even though it’s the right size for my tank.

Styrofoam Backgrounds for Aquariums?

Well I have some Styrofoam, the one you get when you buy a TV or Electronic and want to make aquarium background out of it. I got my shapes figured and stuff but wanted to know is they another way then putting on cement. I have some leftover from remodeling my bathroom. Such as paint or epoxy. Epoxy is out of my price range though. If I do put on cement, what do I do to lower its pH? Like to a ph of 6. I want to put this background in a softwater tank too. What paint should I use too. If you guys need more info, I’ll put more. Thanks

Styrofoam background in aquarium?

This is a question that I asked earlier today
“I have been reading a lot online about DIY backgrounds and I think I can take it on. The only problem is I do not know where to get the styrofoam other than when buying things from the store that come in a box with styrofoam in it. Can anyone please refer me to a site or a store where I can get a rectangular piece of styrofoam? My tank is a 30 gallon tank(30″ x 18″). I am only looking for something that is 2-3 inches thick. Any information is helpful.

Also, a lot of people talked about many different types of paint to make the background look real but no one ever mentioned krylon fusion. Does anyone think it would work ok?”

Not on of the answers had anything to with the questions I asked.

Not trying to be mean or rude but I just want to know where to get a piece of styrofoam and whether or not krylon fusion would be ok with it b/c I already have that kind of paint.
