Question by Aventurinne: Is styrofoam safe to use INSIDE the aquarium?
I have an acrylic tank that I want to turn into an aquarium. I will be using a box filter with air pump. Problem is, the vibrations of the filter produces quite a racket on the plastic. I was thinking of somehow cutting out a styrofoam base to cushion the filter. Is it aquarium-safe? If not, what other ways are there to cushion the filter?

It is, but over time it can start to break apart and leave annoying pieces of white styrofoam floating all over the place, which you fish might or might not try to eat.
You might try cutting a sponge to fit. I know you can buy big sheets of sponge material at the fish store cheap. It should make a pretty good buffer.
