Hi there, well okay..i’ll try to make this as simple and easy to follow as possible.
My fish tank looks messy, old and just boring. i want to totally re do all that’s in my aquarium tank
its about 50 cm across and about 30 cm high,
i have quite i few fish..they’re tiny.. like really tiny about the size of a mosquito fish..and got a few more babies now one of them gave birth about 1 month ago but the babies are not to small
okay
1. i want to change the gravel.. because the original gravel i got the colour is going all weird, so i just want to get a plain natural coloured one instead.
2. when cleaning the ornaments what do i use?
3. when changing over the tank..what do i do with the fishes, do i need to buy a separate plastic tank? because last time i put them in a bucket and they all ended up jumping out,…luckily i found them all xD
4. people say the water needs to be checked for levels and stuff.. what exactly does that mean?
5. because of all the fishes poop, how do i clean out the gravel and the murky water when i remove the gravel , do i just use the filter and wait ?
6. whats the best thing to use to make the water clear?
and i only take out like less then half of water out of the tank and add tap water into the tank right ?
or do i condition the water?
and if anyone could give me step by step guide or advise would be much appreciated.. really sorry for it being long…. but i really want to get it right…
and sorry.. >.< i sound like a complete noob. lol x

I have a medium-sized vase with about 10 pieces of lucky bamboo in water, with gravel about halfway up. The roots extend all the way through the gravel to the bottom of the vase. The sides of the vase are now covered in algae, even though I change the water regularly. I don’t think it’s a huge problem, but I’m wondering if I buy a handful of small freshwater snails at the local pet-store, if they’ll be able to survive in that kind of space, and whether they will eat the algae. Should I buy snails or small shrimp? Can I change the water and put in fresh cold water without killing them?

Question by Greg Martinetti: Why is my small aquarium making so many bubbles from it’s undergravel filter? Help!!?
I have a Petco 2 gallon hexagon mini aquarium. I have an undergravel filter and a small air pump that came with the aquarium and 3 guppies inside it that have been living there for almost 2 days now. There are a lot of bubbles coming from the undergravel filter (which i think is normal), but they don’t pop for a while and it gets to the point eventually where the entire surface is covered in a layer of bubbles. I don’t think that this is good for the fish as they are frequently swimming around at the top at the surface. However, wherever there are bubbles at the surface, they won’t swim there. Is this a big problem for the fish, or does it not matter? I can’t be with the fish tank 24/7 to clear the bubbles off the surface, so if it is a problem i’ve got to know why it’s happening and how to fix it. I’ve looked all over online, and can’t find situations similar to mine that have happened. Please help!

Assume that you are in a small room and you’re the only one in there. Now, answer this question: Why do you need to have oxygen 24/7?

i was looking at my fish and my black moor has some white scratches on his side. i look around the tank and see nothing sharp. im thinking that she/he is molting some scales or something. it happened a day after i cleaned the fish tank and the same day i added a air pump.(i know they don’t need the air pump but i just thought it would look cool). what kind of medicine should i use? if not medicine then what can i do?

This week I’ll purchase a Aqueon 36 gal bowfront tank. What would be the best filter to get for this tank size. My fish choice was 1 or 2 fancy goldfish/or I might go tropical. I still have some time to do more research. I just need help on deciding what filter to get…a HOB or canister. I’ve read that canister filters are for large tanks. Please give name of filter and model no#. I really would prefer a canister if possible. Thanks in advance.
