I have recently aquired a turtle from a friend that out grew it’s tank, he’s about 4-5 inches long, very active and very sociable. I truly enjoy watching and interacting with Raph but I don’t think I can stand the smell. He’s currently in a 100 gallon long tank filled about 2/3 full with a UV light on one side and a heat bulb on the other above his platform for basking. I have 2 filters, one on each end of the tank and feed him small amounts at a time and use a fish net to scoop up excess food. He has an under water heater that keeps his water about 78 and his basking site is usually at 82 or 84. I did a lot of research before I got him and I continue to do some even now but I just can’t stop the smell. I clean about 75% every other day sometimes every 2 days but it seems like within a couple of hours the tank is so cloudy you can’t see Raph and by the next morning the smell is overwhelming again. I’m desperate!
Are there any additives I can try to reduce the smell and make the water clearer??
