What is the size of Neon Tetra?

I went to petco yesterday because im planning on buying fish for my 6gal aquarium. I am thinking of buying neon tetra. In the store, they seemed to be very small in size. I know they are small schooling fish, but could these have been babies or young fish. Because i hear they can grow a little over an inch.
thanks
Do NOT tell me my tank is too small, i’ll delete your comment and report it as being irrelivant to the quesiton.
