My first real tank and I’ve just bought a Hagen radiant heater 100W second hand from a hobbyist. On top of it being hard to distinguish the control settings, I’ve tried turning it to the point where the nob wheel is practically screwed off in the “lower” direction and yet it still sits around the 90F point. I have researched the ideal temps for my community: Platies 68-78F, Guppies 82-84F and Red-eyed Swordfish 69-82F.
I have no idea how to get within the 78-82F mark to make this happen and want to know if my only solution is to find another heater. Please help with some knowledge of either this heater or temperatures in general. Thanks in advance and all the best.
I have an eclipse fish tank and the filter tube sits about an inch from the bottom of the tank. At the top of that tube is a little black rectangle (part of the box for the filter) that is partially submerged in the tank. It is correctly set up according to the instructions.
My three guppies will all sit RIGHT underneath the black plastic at the top of the tank and float there for hours and then randomly will start swimming around again. I’m not sure what they’re doing… Are they sick? Sitting against the plastic to feel the vibration? Resting?
I want to make sure they aren’t hurting themselves at all or sick
Thanks
I’ve had this fish about a year with a few others in a 50 gal tank that I do keep clean. It did eat this morning but not for long now it’s back on the bottom.
A few days ago I bought a new goldfish that only lived about 3 days
my fish tank is pretty big like about a metre long by half a metre wide. i have two cobalt dwarf gourami fish that i have had for about a month now. they have their own territory and if one or the other goes around the other fish’s spot it chases it. that’s about the only time they swim around. are they meant to just sit there or not? my other fish that i had before these ones that were guppy fish swam around heaps !
My calico fan tail has had this wierd condition for over a month but everything else seems fine.
Most of the time she is swimming fine but once or twice a day i find her sitting in the broken barell in the tank on the bottom, but when i tap the glass she gets up and swims and all seems good. The bottom sitting happens about 3 time daily.
She initially showed symptoms of bladder problems of floating towards the top of the tank but that doesnt happen any more

I have 7 Tiger Barbs, 2 Rainbow Sharks, 1 Leporinus, and a pleco in a 30 gallon tank. Everyone seems happy but one of the rainbow sharks sits looking downwards in the corner of the tank. Doesn’t look sick, just wondering if this is normal. Thanks! btw tank light IS on.
