Can I Have Bala Sharks In A 75 Gallon Aquarium? (read All Of The Details)?

Now before i get a bunch of answers saying that this is a stupid idea, i just want to explain how difficult it is just to be writing this question…My younger brother, Michael, always loved fish just as much as i do. Honestly its too much to go on about him but Michael helped my set up my 75 gallon tank for the last time (as i always change the fish stock around frequently). Right now, it has 6 young Silver Dollar Tetras, a young male Firemouth cichlid, and a young 3 inch Bala Shark. The bala shark was specifically picked out by my brother at the petstore with me exactly 7 days ago. I know they are a large schooling fish and i knew i didnt have the right size tank to have a group of Bala’s but I gave in and i bought a single Bala shark because he had, for a long time, always wanted to have one bala in my tank that he could say was “his fish.” Exactly 5 days ago, Michael was suddenly and abruptly taken from myself and our family. At 11 years old, Michael was hit and killed by a speeding drunk driver while him and two of his friends were biking downtown to pick up a pizza to bring back home. I can’t hold back the tears as I type this as its just been the most horrible and devastating loss i’ve ever experienced. My fish tank was always an anxiety escape for me, and since ive lost him, i’ve been an absolute wreck. I’ve been using my fish tank more then ever to try and distract myself from Michael’s death, and every time i stand in front of that tank, i see the lone bala shark, the one that he specifically picked out and begged me to get. All i want to do with that Bala, is honor and remember Michael through it. I know 75 gallons is small for a bala of adult size, and i don’t see being able to get a larger tank anytime soon…but i need that fish, and i need to keep it as healthy as possible for michael.
I suppose my question is, with the current fish stock that i have, can i get one or two more bala sharks in that tank so that Michael’s Bala doesn’t feel so alone (as they are a schooling fish). I want to do this so it has less of a chance of becoming stressed out from being alone and becoming sick from stress or possibly dying from stress. It’s fine now, but i need to keep it that way, and adding another shark or two to be in a group with would surely help…but can it really be done in a 75 gallon tank???
please any and all input is greatly appreciated…i know they’re just fish, but fish have been a passion of mine for years, and that bala shark is just another way for me to honor and remember my little brother and best friend. R.I.P bro, i love you forever…
Thanks
-Chris

What’s Wrong With My Bala Sharks?

I have 2 small bala sharks, in a 50 gallon tank. Don’t worry, I plan on upgrading when they get big enough. I also have some neon tetras a rainbow shark and a sucker fish. I’ve had this setup for about 5 months with no problems as of yet.
Question: Yesterday I recently noticed that the bala sharks seem to be acting strange. They have been favoring one side of the tank and swimming up and down the side eractically (as if they are trying to get to the other side of the glass). The only thing different about that side of the tank is that the heater is on that side. But I’ve checked the water temperature and it’s fine, so that can’ t be it. I’ve never noticed them doing this before and they are usually low energy swimmers. Also, the eyes on one of them appears to have darkened. I’ve never noticed it before yesterday but they are noticably different from the other bala sharks eyes. I’ve changed about 50% of the water and added stress coat fluid last night hoping that it would have some positive effect on them, but they still seem the same today. Are my fish sick?
Any thoughts?

The Monterey Bay Aquarium HD – Sharks, Otters, Jellyfish, Sea horses and lots more!

HD Clips from many bits of the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. There are so many different species and types of fish, it really is a different world under the water. Range of underwater creatures in the video, lots of fish, sharks, otters, jelly fish, sea horses, coral life, and much more. Enjoy the video, it’s not everything, but comes close to a good taste of what there is to see. I recommend that anyone go and visit in person, there is nothing that can compare to the real thing. silvertip Sharks Part 2 with Eagle Rays

Part 2. Majestic and graceful, the enigmatic Silvertip Shark (Carcharhinus albimarginatus) have been trained to accept food from tongs and are now successfully kept with otherwise potentially vulnerable Eagle Rays. The eagle rays are seen feeding without concern for their finely tuned tank mates. At the time this footage was taken, these Silvertips were most likely the only captive representatives of this species in the world. These animals are to be ambassadors for their kind in the quest for species conservation and public education in a high profile public aquarium.

Columbian Sharks And Tank Size?

The fish I would like to add to a tank would be:
Columbian Shark (Silver tipped shark/STS)
Red tail Black shark (RTBS)
Bala shark
However, the Bala sharks I don’t think I will be getting. Because I’m tight on money I can’t afford to buy a big enough aquarium to fit all of those in since two of them are schooling fishes. If I could though what size would you recommend for all of them to fit in one tank (fully grown, 2 silver tipped, 2 balas, 1 red tail)? And please don’t say they need 3 or more, at least they have an extra buddy and not all alone. I think they are really sweet fish but I might not have the room for them.
I used to have an aquarium but when I moved to another neighborhood I gave it to a friend. I could possibly get it back. And I think its about a 50 gallon. Just as a starter for them till I can get another larger tank.
I would also like to possibly get a few loaches (very small ones.) I wouldn’t like to have a pleco though, that would definitely be too small for everyone. And they don’t do much as they get older.
Anyways here’s the main questions:
1.) Would 2 Columbian sharks do well together on their own or do they need more?
2.) Could I also fit a Red Tail Shark in there?
3.) What size aquarium would you recommend for them (RTBS and STS) once they are fully grown?
4.) Would 2 Bala’s do alright with RTBS and STS in there also? & what size tank again?
5.) I read that STS has to be in brackish water as they age. Is it completely necessary or can I leave them in freshwater? (reason being is because of the RTBS and Bala’s)
Any additional information or links would be greatly appreciated. :)
Thank you.

Red Tailed Sharks are highly territorial fish that won’t tolerate each other. What you’re seeing is likely to be territorial behaviour. It is a general rule to keep these fish one to a tank, not in pairs or with anything else of similar shape.

These fish are very difficult to breed in tank conditions and successful spawns are very rare. I would suggest rehoming one of the sharks.

Q&A: What do red/blue tailed “sharks” eat?

Question by Mikeru: What do red/blue tailed “sharks” eat?
It doesn’t eat the flakes immediately but once it sinks it will eat over left overs, I also put in blood worms occasionally. Is this a sufficient diet or should I put in some vegetables? if so, what kind of vegetable should I put in and how would I prevent water clouding?

Are you talking about these sharks?!?! Dad-Gum! They’d eat a lot of things! Other than that, I have no idea, sorry I can’t help much…

If its these then this should be a good diet for them.

Can Red Tail Sharks Be Kept With?

So I got a new Red Tail Shark. It is in my 10 gallon now with my Dwarf Gouramis. It is 2″ (if that) and will be upgraded next month.
As you may remember I have a 29 gallon and a 10 gallon. I want to set up a 20 gallon and actually switch my aquariums up a little. Since I can only afford a 20 gallon, I want to throw my Red Tail Shark in the 29 Gallon. I KNOW he wont get along with all my fish though. I have an idea on which ones but I need help as I don’t want ANY of my fish to get attacked.
I have
~Glowlight Tetra’s (I heard the sharks are attracted to red so I think they may be targeted)
~Corydoras
~Upside Down Catfish
~Ghost Catfish
~Kuhli Loaches
~Oto Cat’s
~Platies
~Betta
What ones can the Red Tail Shark live with for sure? What do I need to remove?
Please don’t say how they need 50 gallons or whatever. They only grow 5-6″ anyways.
