I have a big and dangerous problem, can anybody help? Should I become a …?

Question by Google Yahoo MSN: I have a big and dangerous problem, can anybody help? Should I become a …?
I inherited a sizable amount of land somewhere in a tropical country. It has a pool, 4 cottages, and lots of rolling terrain. Now, there’s a community that lives just beside it, about 200-500 families just beside our lot. Most of the families there are very poor and there are lots of drug addicts and illegal gambling. I have 4 kids (all girls) and a wife. We have income from somewhere else, but I am also thinking of putting up a business or working. I want to send my kid to MIT in the United States, to do this I need lots of cash and have to make my daughter very smart by sending her to a good school and at the same time spend time with her. Now the problem with me moving there and bringing my family is security and livelihood. We had this incident when we stayed there for a while when a neighbor came inside with a jungle bolo and asked for money because it was Christmas. At the time we gave him money.

In the future, if we are going to live there permanently, we could do this two ways – use force when necessary or just give him the money. We cannot rely on law enforcement here. They are corrupt and uneducated and most of the time, working for the “bigger corrupt fish”

I just don’t know what to do and where to start. I have always wanted to be a gangster but at the same time be a good doting dad and responsible citizen. You see the inherent contradictions of my life?
Thanks for the quick replies folks. Here are additional details.

1. We could *NOT YET* sell the land for legal reasons that would take years – we are however free to occupy it.

2. I have a limited budget from my other income. The fact is, if we don’t occupy this place, we would be putting our other income there for employees/caretaker and maintenance of the pool.

3. It has a good potential for starting an agricultural business. Either vegetables or livestock.

4. Its kind of weird but it is near a fast developing city, which is home to lots of factories – and yet is also secluded. *They call it development*

Fish Community Response to the Addition of Wood in Smith Creek, Virginia

Large woody debris (LWD) is an important component of healthy stream
ecosystems. LWD shapes stream physical habitat features, captures and stores organic
matter, and serves as shelter, feeding sites, and reproductive substrate for fish and other
aquatic organisms. Loss of in-stream LWD and sources of LWD as a result of human
activities has negatively impacted many streams. Recently, restoration of in-stream
LWD and riparian sources of LWD have become important facets of stream res

Platy Problem. Need Help Please?

I went to do a water change in my 55 gallon and one of my platies fins was COMPLETELY shredded. I’m not talking about just one, all of them were shredded. Caudal, dorsal, pelvic, and pectoral.
He has always been the anti-social one. Hiding away in plants and only coming out for food. The platies are very rough with each other. Always chasing each other and the males always nip.
When I first got the platies a few weeks ago, I got 5 males and 5 females by random pick. 1 female died, so the males are outnumbering the females. I went to pet smart to get 5 more females, they all had ich so I returned them. They never were in my tank. I do not pick up fish there anymore except Betta’s. They are not in main tanks and new shipments are healthy), but I have a local fish store. They carry lots of exotic breeds of fish, and surprisingly they have some platies, so when I go next month, I am getting more females.
But the Male had a nip out of his Caudal fin, I did not like the look of it, so I removed him and put him in my 29 that has 5 Danio’s (getting more at LFS, they also carry them.), 3 guppies, 1 Dwarf Gourami, and 1 Male Bristlenose pleco.
I put him in there about 10 minuets ago, everything looks good. Danio’s ignore him, to busy chasing each other. The guppies stay with each other, off in la la land. Gourami is just out there, always swimming. Pleco is in a good size cave most of the time, coming out to munch on an algae wafer every once in a while.
He looks happy, not stressed anymore. At first he hung around the cave, then he swam only around the walls, now he is venturing out in the middle and is exploring his new home. Just went and checked on him again. Swimming in front of the tank, coming up to greet me and following me.
Is it OK for him to be the only platy in the tank? I know that they like groups, but the tank was just to rough for him.
And I am 100% sure that it was not a Female Betta that did it. When I first introduced them a few weeks ago, they all ignored them and let them swim where ever they want. They show no signs of aggression to each other either.
Is this OK? What can I do to make him feel more secure also? I have a good cave that he can go in and planted with moneywort. I want the best for my fish and no aggression at all. That is why I am going to add another Danio to make a proper school and even out the number of platy sex to 1:2 in the 55.
I do not really want to add more platies with him, I think he likes being alone :/
But whatever is best for him I will do.
Im sorry this is so long.
Also, on this question, can we NOT call me rude or debate whether I give out nice info? I an sick of it. It has not just happened once, but 3 times. I am not rude, I am blunt, and I do not sugarcoat anything or beat around the bush. So drop it. If anyone says anything I am reporting them without thinking about it for a second.
Thanks

Betta Fish Tail Problem?

Hi. i have had a betta fish since october. Afew months ago, my betta fish got a large amount of ammoia in its tank because we didnt clean his bowl regularly. We quickly went to a local pet shop and found out how to fix it and now we try to keep him healthy. He has checkups using a tester for acid and arkeline and also weekly 3rd bowl changes. although, after the effects of the ammonia build-up, my bettas tail has become tattered and stringy. (Not shorter like the tail infection) and he also spends a while at the bottom of the bowl only swimming around when i come in. (because of food!) he also does not flare with his gills as he used to around the other fish. We also try to keep the temperature around 21 degrees (with a light) and feed him betta flakes (which are healthy for bettas) and his colour is mostly fine. I would also like to point out he seems to hide under ornomnets in the shade from the lamp. (problem?) anyway, thanks. hope for replies soon!

Two Goldfish, One Problem. 10 Points For Best Answer?

I have a calico ryukin goldfish…and a black moor. the moor is about 2 inches long and the ryukin is about 2 inches long. on the 19th of june i bought them and brought em home to a squeeky clean tank… At the time i did not know about cycling, vaccuming and etc. I also did not know they neeed 68 degrees to survive/thrive/not die… I SPECIFICALLY told the “pet experts” that i was a BEGINNER…they suggested i buy a filter, heater and thermometer for my GOLDFISH tank… this cost a decent amt of money. Anyways a few days in and my fish are all sad and droopy… like sitting at the bottom of the tank not moving, barely alive and miserable. Now while i had them i called REPEATEDLY …and asked questions about the fish, I”ve had the water tested for free at Petco and every single test has been GOOD! the “experts” at petco were baffled at my situation and didn’t have a clue why my fish were sad. Finally after doing everything EXCEPT kneeling down and worshipping the damn fish I’ve done the vaccuming, and the changes and when nothing improved… I gave up, assumed they were probably too stressed/hated me, and they just went downhill aftr that. So i took em back to get em exchanged thinking that there was something wrong with them. (maybe they were sick/weak)… I bring home the NEW exchanged goldfishes and LIKE MAGIC they are BOTH sitting at the bottom of the tank on the verge of death… this morning i took a water sample to the pet store and they said my levels were GOOD…. the temperature has been between 72-78 degrees … we HAVE industrial strength air conditioning (like 100 degrees to 60 degrees within 10 minutes) type air conditioning; however I live with my step mother who is QUITE stupid. we’ve been having heat waves lately >90 degree weather… and she is known for the stupid habit of turning on the A/C (60degrees) and opening ALL windows, and balcony doors…..
I think this has been the cause of my previous goldfish being droopy and on the verge of death…when i came home today the thermostat read 87 degrees at home…all windows open, all balconies open…AC on full blast -_- AND she even went so far as to make sure the blinds were pulled up and the curtains tied back to allow MAXIMUM sunlight penetration to make the house hotter. Sometimes I wonder if I can experiment on her…like some type of “human stupidity: a complete study of observations” experiment. I bet it would get a lot of funding… Anyways!
Are my goldfish going to die? I have put some filled water bottles in the fridge and was hoping to float them tomorrow morning in the tank to cool it off a little. Was going to do it slowly over the course of several hours to avoid shocking them. I have 2 goldfish in a 10-gallon tank. I know its too small but i have a 29 gallon tank and on the process of setting em up…was trying to see how they did in the tank they’re in.
any advice on how i can save my fish? and possibly some hit men would help, I’ve had it up to HERE with my stepmother >_<…my stepmother is good for ONE reason in this whole entire planet…and that is taking up space and LOTS of it…
I just LOVE how the "pet experts" told me i needed a heater then AFTER the recepit expired ….they said to turn off the heater to allow the temp to go down -_-
sorry about the semi-rant, I'm extremely frustrated because i was so meticulous about the water changes, the feeding times, the light-turn off times…..i followed the advice and spent so much money on this and the results are depressing. :( plus as i type away the night hoping for relief my fishies are on the verge of death. i feel horrible. Anyone who can help me cool down my tank i promise! 10 points! im desperate :(
and i promise 10 points to the best answerer!

I Have A 35 Gallon Octagon Shape Fish Bowl. I Have A Varitey Of Fish. The Problem Is It Keeps Turning Brown.?

I have three gold fish, one alge eater, five minnows and one male betta and one female betta. I clean the filters daily and the tank gets cleaned once a week. what can I do to keep the water from turning brown?

Problem Aquarium Water Conditions?

I have a large tank – 6.5 foot x 2 foot, its been up and running for 2 years and all they fish are very healthy (never had a death), they are mainly oddball fish – 2 eels, 2 oscars, 2 tinfoils a couple of plecos and birchirs, a couple of rainbows and some catfsh. I recently did a water test and the results basically say the fish should be dead but there is nothing wrong with them. The only test that was ok was the ammonia, but I believe that this may be due to the extremely low pH – around 5. They nitrates / nitrites are also high. My problem is how to try and sort this out without shocking the fish. If I do a large water change and the pH rises, I believe I may run the risk of an ammonia problem. Anyone any ideas?

Rabbit in my back yard not moving but still alive. What could be the problem?

Question by ɳʚӵԑʆӵ: Rabbit in my back yard not moving but still alive. What could be the problem?
Yesterday I found a rabbit in my backyard. It didn’t go away as I approached it so I gave him lettuce and a shredded carrot and water. It took him a little time to eat but he eventually ate everything and drank plenty of water. He wasn’t moving much and it was cold so I put him in a fish tank with bedding overnight. This morning he is not able to sit up, his head is tilted up a little. When I put him down he goes on his side and tries to kick. Did I do wrong in putting him in the cage over night? I’m just wondering what could be the problem. I’d like to take him to the vet but I just don’t have the money for it. I feel like I did something wrong in feeding him or something. If he dies I don’t think i’ll “help” another animal again.

Your best bet would be take the rabbit to the vet. He could have internal damage that is unseen.
