What is the difference between a power filter and a internal filter for an aquarium?

Question by FlAsHeR*RaY: What is the difference between a power filter and a internal filter for an aquarium?
I have a 20-29 gallon aquarium with 2 baby map turtles in it. I need to buy a new filter because my current one has gone out on me. I want to keep the water very clean, and im not sure which sort of filter is needed to accompany their needs.

i was going to head over to walmart and get one, but im not sure which one is needed, a power filter or internal filter.

food:
they’re eating frozen dry shrimp and little Reptomin pelets. after they eat the pelets, that’s what gets the aquarium cloudy.

help quick because im really tired of changing the water.

An internal filter lies at the bottom of the tank. (no good). A power filter hangs on the back of the tank. These are the best. Get one that will accomodate a 40-55 gallon tank. Your tank has to be completely full for a power filter. If you have your tank only partially full with turtles, you’ll have to continue to change the water. They are not very good at keeping the tank clean, as you already know. Good luck.

Aquarium HOB power filter producing too much current.?

Question by Mercenary Karma: Aquarium HOB power filter producing too much current.?
I have a HOB power filter on my 16 gallon bow front tank that is producing too much current when it releases the water back into the tank. The filter system came with my tank and is meant for 20 gallon tanks. It does a great job of filteration and keeping my water clean but just produces too much current for my little neon tetras to swim. Is there some sort of attachment I can get in stores to slow down the current?

The best and most effective thing you can do is:

Put some plants in front of the filter suction grill, and they will be sucked to the filtering grill, and it will definatly slow down the water pull, by making the water intake a little smaller allowing the tetras to swim freely!

Good luck, this simple trick is doing the job for me at the moment!

Should I Get A Power Head For My Aquarium?

Here is my scenario,
I have a 60gallon tank (Dimensions: 48-1/4″L x 12-3/4″W x 57-3/4″H), with a Aqueon filter on one side and a heater on the other. I have a freshwater semi aggressive community of fish. I was wondering, should I get a power head for better water movement? because the side of the tank without the filter, the water seems to be not moving a lot. The filter is 325 gallons per hour, but i am just concerned that the other side isn’t getting enough movement. Is the filter good enough for circulation, or is a powerhead highly recommended for a tank of the size?
Also which one would you recommend (that is quiet)?
Thank-you
