Question by : Freshwater aquarium questions! QUICK! HURRY! 10 POINTS FOR BEST!! 2 FOR ALL OTHERS!!?
1. do these tanks sound okay? i have 3 aquariums (4 including my sea monkey “tank” but it doesn’t really count cuz it’s only 12 oz): a 25gal, a 5gal, and 1.6gal. before you say anything about the 1.6 being too small for any living thing, just know that i don’t “keep” anything in there unless it has eggs or is prego. in the 25 gallon, i have: 3 guppies (1 female, 2 male), a CAE (Chinese algae eater, gender unknown), 1 black mystery snail (gender unknown), and a few ghost shrimps (gender unknown). i plan to get more female guppies soon (it might be april, though). as for the CAE, as soon as the weather warms up to about 70 or 80 degrees everyday where i live, i’ll put him in our new pond. for the 5, i have a male betta, a yellow mystery snail, and 2 male ghost shrimps. the 1.6 is holding a female ghost shrimp that is carrying eggs (i believe the term would be “berried” but i’m not sure).
2. how long will it be before the baby ghost shrimps hatch? i noticed the eggs 2 days ago, they were clearish green balls up in her pleopods.
3. i was just looking in my 25 gallon and i think my female guppy is pregnant. i saw a spot where the gravid spot is supposed to be and i think she’s prego. it’s very light though. i went ahead and put her in the prego tank. is this okay or should i put her back? i really want baby fishes and shrimps.
4 am i doing everything right? i check the chemicals and everything regularly. please let me know if i’m screwing something up so my fishes don’t die. i appreciate any help i can get!
5. could a sea monkey survive in plain water? could i put one in the prego tank and see or would that interfere with the pregnancy(s)?
i’m new to fish/invert breeding so don’t judge. i’ve owned fish for 2 1/2 almost 3 years but have never had more than 1 fish of the same kind (except my 4 zebra danios but they didn’t breed) until this january.
Coolest One: i asked about the sea monkeys in the prego tank so she could eat them so thanks ![]()
i put one in the tank and it didn’t last a minute… the prego shrimp ate it

1. Your aquariums all sound good, with extra room for your fish! just remember to make sure there are plants and decorations! (Makes tanks look pretty and better for fish too)
2. I do not have much experience with ghost shrimps, but most shrimp eggs will hatch within a week. Make sure the water is clean and well aerated for best results.
3. I would put her in the 1 gallon tank. If she is pregnant, then great! If she is sick and has dropsy or something then you will have made a quarantine tank and thus you have prevented the spread of disease.
4. Yes, you sound to be doing just fine. Better than most fish owners, actually.
5. Yes, a sea monkey could definitely survive in plain water. The problem is, almost all fish find sea monkeys delicious and so if you do put it in the 1 gallon with the pregnant guppy, you will get one fat fish and no monkeys.
All the best with your fish (and sea monkeys, and shrimp, etc) !
