How Often Should I Be Cleaning My 35 Gallon Fish Tank?

I just recently purchased a 35 gallon fish tank and currently have 7 cichlids in it that came with the tank. I’ve cleaned the tank every week now for the last three weeks because within a week it turns completely murky green and you can only see the fish when they come close to the sides. I use a water treatment and make sure I clean the tank thoroughly as well I do have filters in the filter. What am I doing wrong, or why is my water turning green so fast???

I have a 1 and a half gallon tank that I have set up for a future betta fish purchase (my first fish). I know that generally betta fish do not need a filter or aeration to survive and for a 1 gallon tank you should clean it once every 5-7 days or so (correct me if I’m wrong I’m new to fish) But if I have a filter (which I do) does that mean I can clean the tank less often? If so how often?

Also, right now I have 5 neon tetras, 1 swordtail and 1 Red Wag Platy and am worried that I may have messed up the water chemistry somehow because my nitrates/nitrite levels are all very good but ammonia level is still high and am wondering what else I could do to try and lower it because I lost my male swordtail a few days ago because of the levels and another female two days after she had given birth to 4 fry (two survived but died by being eaten and I’m thinking it was a combination of the birthing and ammonia levels that mom fish died)
I’ve been doing water changes using Ammonia Safe by Aqua Safe and even cleaning the tank but the levels never go down???? Is it the test strips I’m using that are defective because it’s weird
I also have hard water and the pH is between 6.0-8.0
Temp is at 78
any suggestions or recommendations for products that you are for sure confident in?

Why Did My Fish Die? How Often To Clean My Tank?

I recently got a new fish tank. Its a 3 gallon freshwater with under gravel filtration and an airpump to oxygentate the water. I had 2 african cichilds (Sunny and Dori) and 1 crab (Oscar) and I decorated it with 2 pieces of plastic coral, gravel, and 1 plastic plant (to hide the heater). At first they seemed pretty happy but then I notice Dori nipping at Sunny’s fins. It seemed as if Dori became terrtiorial over a patricular coral. The next day I feed them but Sunny wouldnt eat. And the next day Sunny was dead. Sunny was a little bit smaller that Dori but I didnt think it would matter when I got them. And now Ive noticed Dori nipping at Oscar too. So my question is what went wrong? Is Dori too aggressive? Did i have too many fish? What should I do next time to prevent this. Also I am considering buying a betta but now Im not sure if Dori and a betta will tolerate each other. Also how often should I clean my tank and is it best to just change the water or clean the gravel too. My tank is 5 days olds. =)

Question by baby g: How often do you change the whole filter system in your fish tank?
I change the filter every two weeks but the filter system itself looks really dirty because of all the crusty residue from the aquarium water building up on the sides. Do you suppose to change the whole filter system every year?

I have a filter that has 3 different baggies with different things in them to help clean the water.
i replace all of them every time i clean the fish tank ( every 3 months)
if you dont have a very good filter, clean it every month

How Often Should I Feed My Dragon Goby Fish?

Should I feed him once a day like I do my other fish? I have had a hard time getting him to eat but successfully did it today with a turkey baster and some tubifex worms. The tank has gotten alittle cloudy from trying to feed him with no luck and I want to clean it out but don’t exactly want to do a full water change. If I do lets say a 15% water change how much salt should I add?

Question by dood: How often should I replace fish tank filter?
I am talking about the actualy filter not the catridges (sp)

I just put a new carbon in and the water does not come out that well, I have had the filter for about a year. It was a filter I got in an aquarium kit, so I don’t know how good they are.

If I replace my filter are there any risks my fish will die from the loss of bacteria?

Before you but try stripping old filter as much as poss and wash well. Replace and see what happens
