Question by Katie: I Need Help With Centerpieces?
A friend and I are in charge of decorating for our spring formal, and for centerpieces, we were going to do candles in wine bottles. However, after thinking about it, we came up with the idea to get tall cylinder vases, fill the bottoms with black gravel and blue marbles, and put a few small feeder goldfish in it. Would that be better than the wine bottles? I know that the gravel colors would tie in with our theme colors, and the fish would tie in with a fish pond that we’re going to be doing as the center of our “central park” garden.
P.S- I don’t want to be berated for using animals as “decorations”. We’ll be treating them well, feeding them, conditioning their water and using only aquarium quality gravel and decorative stones. After the formal is over, they will be going to good homes; a few of us already have aquariums ready for them.
P.P.S- Just wondering, would floating candles harm the fish?
Nesli K- Thanks for the advice! We’re going to address everyone before hand and tell them that they can’t take the fish home. And yep! We were talking about the taper candles in wine bottles. Our event is inside, but one reason I was a little hesitant would be fire hazards.
Thanks to everyone else, too!

Floating candles won’t harm feeder goldfish. They are amazing survivors usually. Neat idea

I have 2 orange finned loaches, a gold pleco, 3 rainbow fish, a dragon goby (or related to it), and a coryporus catfish. All of these fish are fully gorwn almost, and I want 2 gold spotted puffers. The tank size is large enough, but once they get over 2″ I read you need brackish water. Once I make it brackish, would any of my fish be able to live in my aquarium with brackish water? They’re a
L about 6″+ and which could survive? And the ones that cant survive, Would they survive in a 500-1000 gallon koi pond? The water temperatures are about 72 to 74 usually. And, I would like to get some cichlids, are any brackish compatible and would they be okay with my puffer? I know I require a an expert, and I appreciate a large detailed answer. Thank you.

So, does it help the fish in any ways? Does it help the fish from getting sick?

my fish tank got full of green algae stuck to all the walls and stuff this has never happened to me before, all the ornaments that i have inside the tank are also full of algae and look hard to remove because they resemble like fake sponge that have little holes in it. if i clean my tank and put these things back in with a little algae will it start growing all over again??

He was my beloved little betta, and he broke my heart because I tried so hard for him. I am pretty sure he had swim bladder disease, then he got these white sores which I tried to treat with betta fix. I don’t have it in me to get a new fish right now, but I don’t want to get rid of the tank yet either, have bought so much equipment for the tank. I have “safe and easy” aquarium cleaner spray from Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. Can I just clean everything with this for storing the tank/decorations?

Hi need ideas that help my classmates understand the kidney anatomy
such as: medulla, cortex, pelvis, renal artery, renal vein, aorta, inferior vena cava
also part of urinary system: ureter, bladder and urethra.
i need like good things to do for about 40 min that will make everyone in my class participate.
One of my ideas was based from my textbook and it talks about a semi lab about
making a model of a filtering excretory system using funnel, aquarium charcoal, beakers, water and some other stuff.
Please i need help with more interesting activities to do for my class to participate in and its for REVIEW NOT TO TEACH THEM SOMETHING NEW.
it has to apply to the environmental and biotechnology somehow. So i need to add APPLICATION AND INQUIRY QUESTIONS OR SOMETHING!!
P.S. im not a teacher im doing like a presentation/project to review the kidney anatomy xD
Thanks alot!!
