So my brand new Mickey Mouse Platy(s) gave birth on the way home him the bag!?!?!?!?

I bought two. The guy at the pet store didn’t tell me they were pregnant. He just said that they were two females and I shouldn’t have a breeding issue. He was wrong. One or the two of them was/is pregnant and gave birth to (about) ten babies already. I had a brand new 15 gallon tank setup already but I think the filter is going to be WAY too strong to add the babies so what can I do? I do have a plastic travel fish tank that I’m thinking about setting up. I have a filter that is gentler and for a 1-3 gallon tank(which the traveler is about 2gal.). Would that be a good idea until the babies get bigger? Also,I need any information on caring for the babies since they are so tiny,I mean, what can they eat?

And how can I tell which one is the mom? How many babies will she have? Do I need to put her in the tank with the babies(the little one)? And how can I tell a male and a female(since I doubt the guy at the pet store knew)?

Thanks.

How do I take care of Mickey platy babies?

My mickey platy just had babies. I didn’t really believe the salesperson when she said that the fish was pregnant. But today I found a bunch of little fish swimming with the mother and another fish. Do I need to separate the big fish from the babies? Will the big fish eat the babies? My filter will probably suck them up, so how do I keep the tank relatively clean? Will they eat the same food as the adult fish? Please help! The lives of at least 5 baby platy are at stake. Thank you for your advice.

Mickey mouse platys?

hi i have a 30 gallon aquarium with 9 male guppies and 7 female guppies (im adding more soon) and 1 clown loach and on saturday i bought 4 platys 2 males and 2 females
1 of the females is a mickey mouse platy she has the black mark to show it but you can just about see the mark i. how long until it fully grows

My Mickey Platies gave birth to fry this morning. Help!?

I noticed a bunch of mickey platy fry hiding out in a tall hornwort plant I have in my 28 gallon aquarium. Apparently, one or more of those 5 mickey platies I have is a very fertile female.

So the question is, what do I do now? I don’t want the parents to eat their young. I already bought one of those breeder nets to protect the fry with. And my ten gallon tank is already filled with the dwarf puffers I recently transferred from the 28 gallon tank. So that option is out.

Do you think if I keep the parents’ well fed every day (not overfeeding though) they won’t eat their young or try to?

But what do I feed the fry babies? Flake food?

I must say I’m surprised the mickey platies gave birth. I know they are live bearers but doesn’t the water temp have to be above 80 degrees for that to happen? I have the water temp. set at 79 degrees.

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

Preg. live bearing fish. Mickey mouse platie?

I have two Mickey Mouse platie fish. (Along with a few other types of fish) My female is pregnant although I am not sure how far along. I noticed she was pregnant 2-3 weeks ago. (I was told its about 30 days till birth from start) So I imagine she is due pretty soon as, I am sure I didn’t notice immediately. Yesterday I set up a new tank for her to give birth in. I put her in alone and she seemed very stressed out. So I put in the male with her so she wouldn’t be alone. I was told that you should always have a pair together. (I plan to take the male out when I notice new birth or impending. I will take her out once she seems done) When I set up the tank I did put in start right and the temperatures where nearly identical in both tanks. Looking back I think that I should have floated them in a bag anyways because looking at the male he seems blotchy in color. Maybe now white spots? I don’t know as I don’t really know if his skin seems more blotchy or spotty. Anyways reading on the net it seems that many say they need a bit of salt in the water normally. Also I’ve seen it say that live bearing breeding tanks/nurseries should have salt in the water as well. And since he may now have a disease many articles say salt will kill the disease. I don’t want him or the mother/babies to have this.
I called my local pet store they say no salt. They said start right is all that’s needed. Apparently start right has a bit of salt. This is my question, dose anyone knows for sure? I am new to this. I really like the idea of watching livebearers have fry. I think it will be fun to watch them multiply. Oh, also I was wondering. My two tanks don’t have a heater. They sit at about 72. I was told that they should be warmer. I’ve had my fish about 3 months they always seemed fine. Should I put a heater in the new tank? If so why and what temp? Oh and also if I should use salt can I use sea salt or table salt instead of aquarium salt? I have these already.

My mickey mouse fish look sad and stay at the bottom of the tank. Also have a funny shape, what could be wrong

They both still have their color to them, but have been becoming oddly shaped. Usually they interact with the other fish, but they don’t even swim together anymore, they just linger at the bottom on the tank.

A poor male guppy chasing a male mickey mouse fish…表錯情的孔雀魚

A poor male guppy who happens to only fancy male mickey mouse fish. 這是一條可憐的孔雀魚,牠是單獨地被買回來,可能因此大受刺激,改為只肯與米奇魚交配,還要公母不分.
