Can Mice And Small Hamsters Live In The Same Cage?

I have a big aquarium that is about 1″ x 2.5″ where my albino mouse lives (i used to have 6 of them but they died) and i want to get some hamsters because i’ve had them before and i liked them more than mice.i don’t remember what that kind of hamsters is called but they are the same size as mice.i don’t want to wait until the last mouse dies because its still less than a year old,but i want to get more pets in there.would it work out?is it ok to have them all in one cage?they pretty much eat the same food and have the same lifestyle.
Oh and this might be relevant…i have had problems with those animals being cannibals :/ when i first got 3 hamsters, the next morning one of them was dead and there was some blood.when i got my 6 mice, the biggest one(who was a guy) started running after some other ones and being quite agressive.it was really bad he would jump on them and stuff.those poor things tried to get away.they were making a lot of noise and sometimes i had to separate them.but it might have been just because that one mouse was older and tried to breed…and the last thing..i’m not sure how the 5th mouse died but the only one mouse that was left has EATEN half of the body.it was really disgusting there was no head and LOTS of blood.someone said its probably just because of vitamin C deficiency…but right now that mouse isn’t aggressive at all.
So will putting different animals together cause even more of those problems?the mouse i have has been alone for about 4 months, would it accept other animals in the cage?

One Of My Mice Is Losing Hair?

My 10 year-old sister has two little mice and I noticed today that one of them is losing a bit of hair on the back of her neck. The other mouse is fine though?
I have them on Carefresh Natural bedding, and my rats are on it also…but all of them seem fine; as well as the other mouse that is housed with the one losing hair? Any ideas what may be going on here? I’ve practically ruled out mites as all of my other rodents are having no reaction to the bedding and they all eat the exact same diet…so I’m lost. haha
And idk if this info will change anything, but the mice live in a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen lid (they can escape from wire cages), and the one losing it’s hair is mostly white. And call me horrible but I can’t afford to take the mouse to the vet. Vet prices are ridiculous and it’ll end up being a $50 trip for a little mouse that I paid $5 for, only for them to tell me ‘they don’t know what’s wrong with it’, so I’d really like to not have to take it to a vet :( Sorry if that sounds horrible of me Dx

New Pet Mice Owner In Need Of Help Caring For Two Male Mice.?

My husband bought two mice for my step-son, who as a normal child showed interest for about a week. Now I’m the proud owner of Carmel and Chronic…however, I have no idea what I am doing or how to care for these delicate animals. Can anyone out there possibly help me? I currently have them in a 10-gallon aquarium with a screened lid. I have been feeding them mice food and raw carrots and lettuce. I’m also concerned as they constantly chase each other. Is this normal? I’m asking because Carmel seems to “dominate” the cage and Chronic hides in little tubes (cardboard ones) to escape Carmel. I’m slowly getting up the courage to attempt to touch one, but personally I think that the good Lord created these mice without human interference. They are just beautiful to watch and don’t want to ruin that experience by interfering with their “daily routines”. My husband helps once a week to clean their cage, but I can tell that’s “not his cup of tea”. I didn’t ask for this responsibility but since my cat, Jynx, died, I guess I’m trying to “replace” one pet with another. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

2 Male Mice Constantly Fighting?

I have two male mice (Ben & Jerry). I got Ben 1st, then Jerry. I understand the territory thing so before I put Jerry in the cage I cleaned it and put peppermint oil on their nose & tail. They were ok for awhile but they still fight. Jerry totally minds his business – he just wants to run on his wheel and Ben will force him off the wheel and chase him around the cage. And they have two wheels so its not like Ben wants 2 run on the wheel. Whatever wheel Jerry is on Ben forces him off and chases him. It looks like Ben is smelling or biting his ba!!s. They do this at least 10 times a day! They are in a 15gallon fish tank. I’m so sick of Ben doing this. Will they eventually get used 2 each other or will Ben continue to terrorize jerry 4ever? Its already been almost 3 months and Ben still fights Jerry!
Also I have two cats. If Ben won’t stop would it be bad for me to let them have Ben? I mean I love Ben & all but whAt he’s doing to JeRry isn’t right & I’m sick of him being a bully all the time.
Also I don’t want to get another tank – don’t want 2 spend the $ for that.

Do Female Fancy Mice Stink?

I really want to get a fancy mouse but I am really worried that they stink. I have a cage for her well them because I want to get two females. I have had a MALE dwarf hamster in the past and he stunk so bad that I had to get rid of him. I love mice! But are they smelly, I have been doing a lot of reading online and still am not convinced I can get a female fancy mouse and they won’t stink. They would be in either shredded paper bedding or carefresh. They will have a couple houses a tunnel, water bottle, food bowl, wheel, a block to nibble on, and that is about everything. I will clean them once a week.
Also I have a fish tank light and hood for the glass cage, will this work and will it help lessen the smell? Please no mean comments, I have just had a bad experience with hamsters so please any advice would be great!

Question About Pinky Mice?

i have a decapitated pinky mouse in my snapping turtles tank but since he had just eaten a fish hes not eating the pinky, im guessing he’ll come back tonight or in the morning for it, so will it like rot or harm him, he usually has dead fish guts and scales in the tank since i cant clean as fast as his appetite.

Why Do My Mice Keep Dying?

I bought my daughter 2 mice from Petco in June. Within the 2 week period, one died. I replaced it, and the replacement then died. I then bought 2 more mice. They lived a while, but eventually both died. All the while, the first one has been healthy. For Christmas, I again bought 2 mice. One died today. I have no idea why they are dying. They live in a 10-gallon glass aquarium with a screen top. They are fed Kaytee Mouse Rat & Hamster food. They have a water bottle in the cage that I have seen them all drink from. They have an exercise wheel. My daughter puts cardboard tubes and boxes in their cage for hiding and playing in. I was using pine shavings for bedding, but was concerned about toxins in pine, so I switched to Carefresh natural bedding. I supervise my daughter when she is handling the mice, and she doesn’t handle them roughly or squish or drop them. I have had small pets before (mice, rats, gerbils) and never had these kind of problems.

Do You Think This Paper Might Convince My Mom To Let Me Get Mice?

I love mice. My mom is horrified by rats so I’m trying to compromise. If you have any cute pics that can help!!
Mom,
I know you have a rat-phobia and Ferrets, as cute as they are, don’t fit our lifestyle. I know we already have some pets and I love them all SO much! You know how much I love all animals, and I’d like to spend some of my birthday money on mice. Don’t roll your eyes, don’t laugh me off, don’t say “get the traps out!!”, just listen for a moment.
Mice are adorable. Even people who hate rodents love mice! Like books such as The Tale of Despereaux or Poppy and Ereth show, mice are sweet and friendly. But, unlike in these books, pet mice are certainly not wild! Pet (fancy) mice have been domesticated to be friendlier (they won’t bite!), Softer (there is even a fur type called “satin”), calmer (they like people and won’t scurry off!), cleaner (mice groom themselves and potty in one corner!), smarter (you can even litter train them!), and healthier (they rarely need to go to the vet). An 10g aquarium is suitable for a cage For food, a homemade mix of oatmeal, dog kibble, dry fruit, cereal, seeds and dry pasta is great… and we have all these in our cupboards! And those carrot peels or leftover beans would be relished as well. For sleeping arrangements, a terra-cotta pot or cardboard tube is fine. Recycled newspaper bedding/litter is perfect. They need about 2T of their food a day, and their water needs to be replenished every day or so. All this takes less than 20 minutes a day, and wouldn’t interfere with my Piper(♥)-“duties”. I don’t think that Dad would mind mice at all, infact he asked me if I could put some in my paludarium (aquarium with land&water). If you’re wondering what you “Do” with mice, I’ll make a short list:
-They like to sit on your (my) shoulder/hand or ride around in your (my) shirt pocket.
-They’re friendly and like being petted.
-I can make them cute toys and huts.
-They can be trained to do simple tricks.
-They’re very entertaining to whatch! Remember their antics on the wheel in the petshop?
It’s your choice in the end. I know you don’t like rodents much, but maybe if you try you’ll like them! You won’t have to do anything or pay for anything. Thanks so much for reading my paper and hearing me out.
L♥ve, Zoë.
P.s., Here are some pictures of mice. I didn’t chose the absolute cutest, just the normal ones so you get an idea of what they look like.

Do you think it’s OK? Is everything correct? Anything else I should include?
