What do you mean by clean? The maintenance a Aquarium requires? Every week I do a 25% water change on both my aquariums. The one without the Oto cats (algae eaters) I usually clean algae off walls once a month. I have little light source that hits it, but some aquariums need more cleaning of algae. Also the gravel gets vacuumed once a month. Most people test the water every week too. They are a lot of work. Some fish really require a weekly water change like Goldfish. Other fish can develop fatal ‘hole in the head disease’ like Gouramis and Oscars. You just can’t slack with certain fish.

I see many posts from people asking how many fish they can put in a certain size tank so I thought I’d see what you all think of mine.
I haven’t added anything new in a few weeks, all fish are healthy, I do need to clean the tank twice a week though.
here’s what I got in my 55 gallon:
4 mollies (full size) 2 dozen or so fry of various sizes
6 platys
3 swordtails
7 adult guppies, 15-20fry
3 neons (originally 9)
4 glowlight tetras (orig 12)
1 glass/ghost cat
1 redtail shark ~4in
1 botia loach ~3.5″
3 khuli loach (haven’t seen in a while, maybe dead, but have surprised me before)
6 cory cats (2 albino, 4 bronze) 1.5″
4 gouramis (blue, gold, opaline) 3-5″
2 gouramis, pearl leeri, 3″
4 dwarf rainbows-2″
3 australian rainbows-3-4″
3 turquoise rainbows3″
2 cherry barbs
4 kribensis 3″ (keep livebearer fry from getting too numerous)
1 pleco unknown type, full grown, 9″
there’s probably more I can’t remember until I go look at the tank.
So, if you actually read all that, what do you think? what else should I add?

I am new to the fish world. I bought a 75 gallon aquarium and I set up everything so far. I have no idea what im doing and could use some advice on what types of fish a beginner should get and how many for such a large tank. Also any info would help with keeping them healthy and alive would be helpful too. So far I put water in and water treatment and im letting it circulate for 10 days before I buy any fish.

Question by Andy: How can you determine how many gallons a filter system filters in an hour?
have heard some filters that can filter “75 gallons/hour” etc,
I have made a filter that runs on a 5 gallon aquarium pump,
how can I determine its filtering capacity?

Answer by SZ
take 2 buckets of water, posistion said buckets so that the filter draws water from 1 bucket into the other. Let the filter run for 5 minutes (or more for better accuracy). If you run it for 5 minutes, multiply the gallons filtered by 12 for the gph. To get the gallonage, either use buckets with measurements or weigh the water (8lbs per gallon).

About two and a half months ago, i purchased a 30 litre bi-orb. In it, we had 4 fancy goldfish (a black moor, fantail, celestial eye and a Ranchu). sadly, they all died of ich a few weeks ago. I am now looking to restock my tank and i would like some small fish that swim in shoals (neon tetras, things that sort of size) and i would also like to know how many i could have in a shoal. If this isn’t possible i would like some Golden Orandas, but i don’t know how many i could have in 30l of water.
I know this goes on a bit, but i am also not entirely sure how to clean up after my little parasite buddies made an appearance (ich) so if anyone is able to help me with how to restart my tank it would be much appreciated 
P.S. we have already removed the water and the media in the bottom.

Question by Greg Martinetti: Why is my small aquarium making so many bubbles from it’s undergravel filter? Help!!?
I have a Petco 2 gallon hexagon mini aquarium. I have an undergravel filter and a small air pump that came with the aquarium and 3 guppies inside it that have been living there for almost 2 days now. There are a lot of bubbles coming from the undergravel filter (which i think is normal), but they don’t pop for a while and it gets to the point eventually where the entire surface is covered in a layer of bubbles. I don’t think that this is good for the fish as they are frequently swimming around at the top at the surface. However, wherever there are bubbles at the surface, they won’t swim there. Is this a big problem for the fish, or does it not matter? I can’t be with the fish tank 24/7 to clear the bubbles off the surface, so if it is a problem i’ve got to know why it’s happening and how to fix it. I’ve looked all over online, and can’t find situations similar to mine that have happened. Please help!

i use aquasafe, only as much as needed though

that happend to my aquariam then my fish started dieing i think it was because if forgot to feed them though i was a first time fish owner
