i have had my fish about two and a half years, lately they have turned all the rocks over on their side, and started to push the gravel rock on the bottom up against the glass, I am curious as to why…in places you can see the glass of the aquarium on the bottom..they truly are some strange fish and massive in size..the biggest is about 7 inches long the other which is the male is about 4 and a half..are they nesting? do they lay eggs or what?

What do you think? Answer below!

Cichlids are fish from the family Cichlidae in the order Perciformes. The family Cichlidae, a major family of perciform fish, is both large and diverse. There are at least 1300 scientifically described species, making it one of the largest vertebrate families. Numerous new species are discovered annually, and many species remain undescribed. The actual number of species is therefore unclear, with estimates varying between 1,300 and 3,000 species. Cichlids span a wide range of body sizes, from sp

I have performed two 25% water changes three days apart, followed by several 10% water changes weekly for the last month. The nitrates have not budged. I have a 60 gallon SW tank with only a green chromis and a yellow tail damsel, also a few hermits inhabit the aquarium and they seem unaffected. I am at a loss as to how these nitrates are so high, they are at nearly 40 ppm. I am not a beginner at this hobby, so just asking this question on here tells you how desperate I am for answers. I need info from someone that has dealt with this situation. I have a canister filter, two power heads, a protein skimmer, and a heater, as the aquarium is filled with live rock and sand. Does anyone have any idea as to how to bring these nitrates down besides using chemicals, I hate to use chemicals, I do not trust them. Any questions about my tank you can feel free to ask, I will give you the info willingly. Just help please:) I have been battling this for some time now.

Okay, so I’m 14 which means I know I’m capable to care for this creature. Please don’t leave snobby comments about me setting it free because honestly there’s no where for it to go. I have no idea how it ended up on the steps to my basement, but it did. It must have gotten stuck because I saw it there and let it be, not wanting to hurt it. About five hours later I went out to check out of curiosity and it was still there, up against a step. I very carefully moved it to the top of the steps (Thinking it couldn’t get up) and a few more hours later it hadn’t moved an inch. I cleaned out a aquarium thing and made it a nice home, I tried feeding it worms and bugs but it just won’t take them! It’s all black (No marking I can see so far) I can’t tell how big. I live in BC if that helps. I have no idea where it came from considering there is little gutters along the mountain I live on, but nothing steady for it to survive. As selfish as it is I don’t want to let it go, a coyote or bear might make it a snack and I’ve grown attached to it in the few says I’ve had it. I’ve researched online and can’t quite find what I’m looking for, can you help?

Question by harry: Do you know any thing about breeding “Discus Fish”?Thanks.?
Best answer:
Answer by nortonclarkson
I bred various discus fish in the mid 80′s, I’m sure you can learn much on this subject in yahoo groups, my profile is public, I might have some answers for you, P_H Nitrate levels and ammonia are very critical.
I finally started breeding Convicts, They don’t sell for as much, but they can be just as impressive looking and grow much faster.
If you insist on Discus, I get it.They are beautifully. ph should be kept neutral or just slightly acidic. They will spawn readily on broken pottery. Expect them to carry young hatch lings in the mouth and as they grow older, will hang in the gills.

I have had three hermit crabs all together for about 3 months but two of them died. So I have one. He’s lonely im sure and i have been keeping him in one of those hermit crab kits which ive been told cant be permanant but I cant afford and aquarium. I also can’t get his temp right and I have no idea if his humidity is right. He is so active i mean I love him but I can’t afford sand, tank, heat, humidity gauge, etc. I definitly am not going to kill him. Would any pet stores take him or is it too late for that. I dont want to kill him seriously
