Question by cody m: seriously what is the difference between an endler and a guppy geneticaly?
i’ve heard that guppies and endlers are now considered two different spieces. they can mate and produce hybrid fry that are fertile and if you have “fancy guppies” and throw a mix bag of them in your tank you’ll eventualy end up with what looks like an endler. so please explain this too me.

Endler’s and guppies are geographically isolated. There is saltwater all around the endlers habitat and this has been the case for thousands of years. This has caused a slight shift in the DNA of both species, but in evolution a few thousand years is a short time. Since they can’t breed together in nature they are considered different species.

They cross easily in the aquarium and the offspring are hardy and fertile. There are some differences between guppies and endlers. Male endlers tend to look alike in a population while male guppies tend to all look different unless severely inbred. The colors of wild guppies or those reverted to wild by indiscriminate crossing are not the same as endlers. They have much less iridescence and a smaller palate of colors, but these differences are kind of subtle until you look for them.
