My goldfish’s breathing is rapid and is swimming around very fast what’s wrong?

It seems everytime I go near the tank one of my goldfish freaks out. It swims around in almost like a panic and then stops at the bottom of the tank breathing rapidly. If I stay away he seems fine. The fins are not clamped to it’s body. I also have another goldfish in another tank that is always hidding and barely eats. It’s obviously not growing like the rest. I seperated these fish thinking that’s the reason why the small one was hiding and not growing. I’ve moved 2 them 4 X’s in 6 weeks. The one freaking out is one of them. The two small one’s stayed in the smaller tank. 1. I had a major disease break out in the main tank 2. the move back to the tank. 3. My son dropped a whole container of fish food into the tank. 4. the move back to the main tank. Do they do this in fear of me moving them again? If so, how long should I wait to move them to the 75 gallon I just got. They’re in a 20 gal and 10 gal right now. largest fish is 2-2 1/2 in smallest is 1-1/2 in they are common goldfish
If I don’t do the water changes and if I don’t feed them it won’t get done and they will starve so staying away from the tank is not an option
When my son dropped the fish food in the tank it was to the “piont of no return” I had to completely empty the tank, throw the gravel and some ornaments. It was a large, full jar of fish food. and it clogged the filter. So the fish were moved for three days into the smaller tank with the two smaller fish.

Noticed a “cloudy” looking patch on my Oranda Goldfish’s tail.?

And the fin seems to be getting a little curled in that area now as well. Any ideas on what this may be?

The tank had be treated for ick/ich last week, Both fish that had ich died, but the remaining one never caught it. And just noticed the cloudy spot today.

The tank is going though the “High Nitrite” phase of cycling, but according to my water test strips it’s not at dangerous/stressfull levels yet. Trying to hold back on so many water changes, during the “ick week” I was doing them daily. once the other two fish passed i stopped the ick treatment since this fish never had any spots of it, i did leave the salt in the tank thought to make sure the little parasites die off. (about 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons, had more during treatment)

I have 3 filters on the 37 gallon tank he is in, a Emperor 280 with a “Imagine” three stage filter cartridge, a Penguin 125, and a internal sponge filter. The bubble wall i installed during the ick treatment is still in there as well for more surface action. (and it looks neat ;)

The fish is showing no signs of stress, but he never did during the week of ick treatment either (tough bugger)

I just bought him a tank mate today to replace one of the ones i lost, but then noticed the spot on his tail fin once i got home (was gone most of the day). I had already set up a 20 gallon quarantine tank to keep all future new comers in for a couple weeks, so i have time to fix the cloudy spot, but I wanna get on it before it turns into a mess.

The scales on each side of his belly look a bit dull as well in a small little patch.
The salt bath i gave him seems to have helped, The cloudy spot is still there (fins are usually clearish white) but hasn’t grown and his scales look better.

Here is a pic of him being shocked that i took his pic. ;)

If you zoom in you can slightly see the cloudy tint to the bottom corner of his tailfin.

Why does my goldfish’s dorsal fin not stand completely upright?

Just the top edge of his dorsal fin isn’t always upright, I have heard this can be a sign of ill health. He is ten years old and otherwise looks and behaves healthily. He is the largest goldfish i’ve ever seen but his aquarium is big enough, though I plan on getting a larger one soon.

How To Care For Goldfishs

Most of the accidents in aquarium fish tragedies occur from the ignorance on the owner’s part to provide proper fish care. If you plan to have fish at your home, it is important that you learn the types of fish and how to, care for them. You will also need patients. Goldfish is a commonly sold fish, which require proper care and attention. If you have any doubts while caring for your goldfish or other fish call a local pet store and ask for help. Goldfish habitat in aquariums, which it is important to maintain the tank, as well as providing sufficient room for your fish to swim: while you may have seen television programs where goldfish were kept in small containers or bowls, this is a bad idea. Goldfish need room to breathe. Goldfish demand oxygen just like any other living creature, which goldfish oxygen comes from the surface of an aquarium. Make sure that the aquarium offers sufficient space. The space is calculated by length, inches of fish, and depth of the tank. Per inch of goldfish, it is recommended that you have at least 30 square inches of surface space. Goldfish grow in size; therefore add a few extra squares to make sure the fish will have sufficient oxygen.

If you haven’t purchased goldfish or an aquarium yet, ask the service reps at your pet store what type of tank would best benefit goldfish. You must know how many fish you intend to house in the tank. In addition, there is a variety of goldfish on the market, therefore having a basic ideal or what type of fish you want can help the service rep provide you aquarium information. If you haven’t purchased an aquarium or goldfish and you have an idea what you want, it is recommended that you research. Fish are living creatures, which is an owner’s responsibility to preserve his life. Research can help you become knowledgeable as to what you will need to do, as well as what you will need in maintenance of aquarium and goldfish. If you plan to have plants or other types of fish in your aquarium you want to make sure, you have a basic knowledge of each plant and fish as well.

Fish demand high-quality water with the exception of a few. Tap water is OK to use, however tap water tends to build up pollutants. If you want to make sure, tap water is ok to use by asking your local pet store for advice. Pet shops have an all-around ideal whether tap water in the local area is suitable to maintain fish. It is recommended when using tap water to refresh fish water that you run the tap water at least five minutes before using the water to fill the tank. Running the water by minutes will remove, or dissipate chemicals from the water. You can also let the water set overnight after running it for five minutes to remove additional chemicals.

Water has chlorine, copper, metals, etc, which are all contaminating. Letting the water set overnight will minimize chlorine build up, as well as allow the water’s temperature to match with the room temperature.

To maintain room temperature you can also use dehumidifiers, or humidifiers, keeping the equipment near the tank. At all times you must keep goldfish water pure and clear of chemicals. Filters, vacuums, gravel, floss, etc, are all available to help you maintain pure fish water. Since ammonia builds up in aquariums you want to make sure, you understand filtrations as well. Your main targets are chemical, biological, and mechanical filters.
