Should I Clean My Goldfishs’ Tanks…? Not Sure?

I have two large goldfish, one big, the other REALLY big! Haha. The bigger one is like 8 years old and the smaller one is about 5. They each have separate tanks. They are reallllly dirty, and I’m concerned about what it is doing to their health (plus it doesn’t look nice), but at the same I’m almost worried that they’ve just gotten so used to it that it would be bad to CLEAN the tanks. Also, my dad has always been the one to clean the fish tanks but he hasn’t done it in a really long time (yes, I have asked him several times before to clean it, and even when he does, he hardly gets it clean) but I could certainly learn to do it myself. What do you think??? Please help! Thank you :)

Will I See Improvement In My Goldfish’s Behavior Immediately?

Tomorrow (Let us hope), I am taking a short drive out to Petsmart and I will be purchasing my two-inch Baby Black Moor a new home, along with a snazzy new Aqua Clear 150/30 Power Filter, a brand new TopFin Gravel Vacuum (TopFin- Here We Go Again.) , new substrate and ornaments, a fresh can of Omega One Goldfish Sinking Pellets (Which I’ve heard are amazing for Goldies, as they are chock-full of important nutritional goodies), Nutrafin Cycle Biological Aquarium Supplement (To maintain a healthy, flourishing colony of beneficial bacteria), and a few other goodies to make his tank as healthy as possible. Keep in mind, he’s transferring from a MUCH smaller tank that, although well-kept (water changes being done every 3-4 days and gravel cleaned religiously, as well as being fed and cared for appropriately), simply does not meet his requirements and will not do, as he is growing quite quickly and it would be terrible to let him suffer through stunting. I’ve actually been noticing (in his smaller tank) that he seems to be a little down, but is active, though not nearly as active as he should be for a healthy young Goldfish of his particular species, not to mention that he’s got quite the happy-go-lucky attitude for a baby Black Moor. I think his current state is related to the lack of room that he has, and so I’m out to fix it. Will I see an improvement in his behavior when I switch him over to his new tank (after it’s been cycled, of course)? How soon? Do you think his fantastic new supply of oxygenated water and new food will be better for him?

Thanks bunches! (:

How do I clean the water of my goldfish’s bowl?

I haven’t gotten the fish yet, but I need to know how. How would you clean your fish bowl and how often? This is a bowl not a tank. A good sized bowl.

My Goldfish’s New Plants

I liked the idea of a planted tank

My fantail goldfish’s tail is starting to look deformed. Help?

Well, maybe not deformed. It still looks like a tail, but the two outer tail fins are kind of curled in. Like, the sides are kind of pinched together-looking. I’ve heard that goldfish can get deformed, like the normal hunchback on some fancy goldfish can get messed up. So I don’t know if this is the same thing.

Right now, I’m just feeding him the TetraFin brand goldfish food, could this be affecting him? I know this isn’t the greatest brand. Ever since I got my fish, I’ve been looking for Hikari Goldfish food, Especially now that his tail is curling, because Hikari food claims to be able to prevent fish deformities. I also put in snow peas (w. shells- they like to munch on them) and orange (and other fruit) slices on occasion. Should I feed him more oranges to help his tail?

None of the other animals in the tank (black moor, pleco, snail) bother each other- they don’t fight or nip at each other. My fantail has only been sick with ICH once and that was a long time ago. The water quality is usually fine, but it does get cloudy every now and then. I do regular water changes and condition the water. The tank is filtered and has a bubbler and healthy algae.

Anyways, what can I do? If I find the right thing to help his tail, can it ever go back to the way it was? Hope someone can help. Thanks!

How often should I change my feeder goldfish’s tank water, and why is it cloudy? ?

I have a feeder goldfish that i am using as a pet, not to feed another fish, and i recently put a white shell from the ocean(dry, of course), plastic jewels, and a piece of coral in the small bowl my fish resides in. the water has since turned cloudy. why is this? when should I change the water, and if so, can I just use tap water? Thanks!

Why are my goldfish’s fins looking like this?

I have 2 fantail goldfish, a black one and an orange one with some areas that are white. The black one looks ok, but the orange one doesn’t. The orange one looks like it’s tail fins are peeling, it had an outer line of black and now there isn’t it just looks white with something that looks like the bones of the tail fin. He’s still alive but he hasn’t been swimming much, he just stays at the bottom. This has been like this since yesterday when my 3 year old nephew put a whole bunch of goldfish food in the tank, the water got really filthy so i had to clean it, also it’s tail fin got caught on the water filter, both fishes so I had to grab the net and separate them from the filter. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it. The black one sort of has the same thing but you can hardly tell, the orange one looks severe. Please help. Also they are extremely fat, they turned like only after the incident with the food. What should I do in that case, too?
Where can I get anti-bacterial medication that’s sort of cheap, that’s not too expensive? Also, if there is anything else I need, where can I get that, where it’s not too expensive also?
Also do the pees have to be cooked? And thank you for your responses, they really are helpful. Also, this may sound silly, but is it wierd if you decide to take a fish to the vet, I have a friend who wants to but she’s not sure if it’s stupid.

My goldfish’s breathing is rapid and is swimming around very fast what’s wrong?

It seems everytime I go near the tank one of my goldfish freaks out. It swims around in almost like a panic and then stops at the bottom of the tank breathing rapidly. If I stay away he seems fine. The fins are not clamped to it’s body. I also have another goldfish in another tank that is always hidding and barely eats. It’s obviously not growing like the rest. I seperated these fish thinking that’s the reason why the small one was hiding and not growing. I’ve moved 2 them 4 X’s in 6 weeks. The one freaking out is one of them. The two small one’s stayed in the smaller tank. 1. I had a major disease break out in the main tank 2. the move back to the tank. 3. My son dropped a whole container of fish food into the tank. 4. the move back to the main tank. Do they do this in fear of me moving them again? If so, how long should I wait to move them to the 75 gallon I just got. They’re in a 20 gal and 10 gal right now. largest fish is 2-2 1/2 in smallest is 1-1/2 in they are common goldfish
If I don’t do the water changes and if I don’t feed them it won’t get done and they will starve so staying away from the tank is not an option
When my son dropped the fish food in the tank it was to the “piont of no return” I had to completely empty the tank, throw the gravel and some ornaments. It was a large, full jar of fish food. and it clogged the filter. So the fish were moved for three days into the smaller tank with the two smaller fish.
