Would two filters be useful in my goldfish aquarium?

Question by Ryan: Would two filters be useful in my goldfish aquarium?
I bought a 29 gallon aquarium and it came with a filter. I have three goldfish in the tank and I have heard that is too many. Recently the ammonia in the tank has gone up to .5 ppm and I was wondering if a second, smaller filter would be helpful in reducing the ammonia? Is there any possible negative effects of having two filters? Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks

Yep! I have 6 fish, 5 died, and my 2, they’ve been 3-4 years already with 1 filter… so I guess it will be very useful. Make sure you put a generator or something when it gets brownout. I think one of my fish died because of that.

A little tip if you do not have a generator. Get a CLEAN empty bottle, then get some water from the tank, then return it, until you see the bubbles. ^^

What is the best filter for my goldfish aquarium?

Question by Ryan: What is the best filter for my goldfish aquarium?
I have four small goldfish in a 29 gal aquarium and the current filter, an Aqueon power 30, isn’t keeping the water clean enough. I know that is too many goldfish for that size but it is just a temporary home. Currently, the ammonia is a .5 ppm and the water isn’t very clear. I was wondering what size filter would be better to replace the current filter (like a filter for 55 gal)? Would it be better to add a second, smaller filter for rated for 10 more gallons? What brand works the best for the money? I am not looking to spend a whole lot on a filter since this will not be their permanent home but I don’t want any to die. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated… Thanks!

get a bigger filter and use the bigger one and the old filter at the same time. Goldfish are one of the messiest fish out there.

If i were you i would look up a sunsun filter to buy off ebay. (just look up canister filter as their name seems to be lost… other names are taking sunsuns filter and claim it there own. Basically one that looks like a sunsun is probably a sunsun)
These filter are very cheap for the amount they filter like $ 60 for a 60-100 gallon filter
here is a nice review for them http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/equipment/98858-my-review-sunsun-outside-filter-hw.html

otherwise idk what inexpensive filter you can get

My Goldfish Keeps Chasing My Other Goldfish?

I had two goldfish. One was 8 years old and one is about 3 months old. The 8 year old fish just died a couple days ago after being very ill. The 3 month old, Kevin, was kind of lonely but relieved that he didn’t have to help my sick fish anymore. Today we got a new fishy friend for Kevin named Lenny. They are the same type of fish. Kevin keeps chasing Lenny around. Why is this? Is he playing? Is he mad? He is not darting at Lenny, just following him at a slow/medium rate. Lenny swims away and Kevin follows.

Goldfish Hanging Out At The Bottom Of The Tank…?

I cleaned out about 85 to 90 % of the aquarium water last night at about 7pm. Not cleaning out the rocks or anything like that. I replaced the water and put the fish back in after about 15 to 20 minutes… (Yes, I know that it was probably too soon to put them back in.) This morning, they are still alive but hanging out around the bottom of the fish tank. They will eat food that floats down toward them but are not actively going after it. I have checked the water and the pH and ammonia levels are ideal. If I put my head to one side of the tank, the move away frighten, it seems. (I have changed the water out many times and they have never acted like this… The only thing that was different this time was that I put them back in earlier than ususal. Does it sound like I shocked them with a temperature change? And if so, is there anything I can do to help them? Or is time the only thing that will help them? (Is it a good sign that they are not dead yet? – 24 hours later?)

Is It Ok To Put Goldfish In A Tank That Used To Have Red Slider Turtles In It?

My daughter had some turtles in a 46 gal tank, after we got rid of them, the tank sat for about a month we cleaned it out and put some feeder gold fish and one oranda, it’s only been about 2 weeks since we had them and over the past 2 days all have died.
I don’t know if it’s the tank or the fish.

How Come Our Goldfish Survived?

Before I got into fish hobby, we had about 4 goldfish in a 5 gallon tank. Whenever our tank is full of algae (direct sunlight), me and my brother would put the goldfish on a bucket with uncoditioned water while we clean their tank. After cleaning the tank and ornaments with laundry bleach, we would just put the goldfish back into the tank without putting water conditioner. How come they survived?I was in disbelief after I did all the research to properly setup a tank. They lived about 2 years but died cos we bought a smaller goldfish at walmart that carried ick. It’s probably good for them to just died than suffer. >.<

Is It Hard To Take Care Of Goldfish?

I was thinking of getting a goldfish, since it seems like the most easy pet to take care of. But I’ve never really taken care of fish before. When I was little, my mom used to take care of our fishies. She hasn’t bought anymore though ever since they died a few years ago. We don’t have too much space either, so we can’t really afford a giant tank for a goldfish and I heard they’re not supposed to be put into bowls or they die. I want to get a cheap goldfish, and I’m willing to feed it, clean the water, etc. but it’d be best if it didn’t take up too much space. I won’t get one if the goldfish will be miserable in a bowl though. So is it difficult to take care of goldfish?
