Fish tanks! regarding gallons per fish?

Question by Stephen: Fish tanks! regarding gallons per fish?
Hi. I am trying to make a new aquarium for my son, a 50 gallon tank. Anyways, the first question I have regards fish and how much water is needed per fish. When it says “requires minimum 10 gallon tank” under information, does that mean that only those 10 gallons should be for that fish. For instance in my aquarium, a 50 gallon tank, would I only be able to get 2 fish that require a minimum of a 25 gallon tank, or could I get more? Is the minimum tank requirement for a fish considering that that’s the only fish within those requirements? or??? Please let me know if you have any idea, thanks.
I am mostly trying to find out how many fish i can put in the big tank. When i hear a fish needs a 50 gallon tank, does that mean that said fish should be the only fish in that 50 gallon tank, or that I can have more in the tank?
I was actually considering salt water fish with a few small corals with room to grow ect… but I heard basslets are mild tempered fish and do well in coral environments so i was planning on getting 10-20 fish consisting of 3-4 different kinds of basslet.. either way i suppose the best information will come from a fish store.. thanks for your replys

most people say 1 inch of full grown fish per gallon. but that’s mainly for small community fish. if you had a school of 6 neon tetras thats 1.5inches per fish so that’s 9 inches of fish, so around 10 gallons would be good for a school of 6 neon tetras. but bigger fishes like cichlids or some catfish need much larger tanks. like an oscar fish grows up to 12 inches but needs atleast a 55 gallon tank. so it depends on what fish you get and what combination of fish.

The 1 Per X Amount Of Gallons Rule? Saltwater Reef Tank?

im new at this i havnt even got my tank yet but the tank is already set up and im buying it with everythin included along with some fish. ive heard of a cleaning crew? my question is i might change some fish and i look at the “rules” for the fish and they all say 1 per 5 gallons or one pe 25 gallons…does this mean i can put as many fish in a tank as i want or can i only put a certain amount. for example..1 brittle starfish per 25 gallons hermit 1per5 peppermint shrimp1 per 10 emerald crab 1 per 25…does this mean i can have 1 emerald crab and 2 peppermint shrimp and 5 hermit crabs and 1 brittle star fish all in one tank along with whatever fish i want?

All Natural Fish Tank. 29 Gallons.?

Hello, i have a 29 gallon aquarium. what i plan on doing is taking sand off the bottom of a stream down the block, and use well water to fill the tank. What i also would like to do is, take goggles and swim to the bottom of the river, and pick some plants by the roots and planting them in my tank. i plan on buying one of those lights that help the live plants grow, maybe put some rocks and stuff for caves, NOTHING STORE BOUGHT, and id like to fill it with maybe one or two small bluegill.
i am only doing this because i feel the all natural look would be pretty neat looking. if anyone has any idea on what i can do for the sand cuz im not sure about the bacteria and stuff like that involved. and more importantly id like to know more about my plant idea, so please let me know. asap. please and thank you.

Wanted to know if the AquaEl Reef Max 33 Gallon Tank would comfortably house:

Various Shrimp and clean up crew
Would I be able to add a few damsels or other small fish as well?

How Many Gallons Is This Fish Tank?

I got a fish tank from a friend to upgrade from my current 20 gal. I cleaned it out and it’s ready to use. but I need to buy a new top to it and filter etc.. I asked my friend how many gallons the tank is so I can get the proper equipment for it, he said he thinks its a 50 gal but is not sure.
The measurements of the tank are–
36 inches long
24 inches tall
12 1/2 inches wide
I’m thinking a 40 gal? I’m horrible at math.
Thanks!

How Many Gallons Are Recommended For One Koi Fish?

I have a ten gallon aquarium, but I plan on purchasing a 50 gallon tank. Will my Koi fish, there is only one Koi fish and Comet fish together in one tank, be okay in a ten gallon aquarium for now? It won’t be very long until I purchase the fifty gallon. I also keep the water filtered, and clean, and I don’t over feed the fish. So yes, will the two be okay for now in a ten gallon aquarium for now? If you have a very good site to help, that would be great. Also, is there food I can give them as a treat everyone once in a while?

How can you determine how many gallons a filter system filters in an hour?

Question by Andy: How can you determine how many gallons a filter system filters in an hour?
have heard some filters that can filter “75 gallons/hour” etc,
I have made a filter that runs on a 5 gallon aquarium pump,
how can I determine its filtering capacity?

take 2 buckets of water, posistion said buckets so that the filter draws water from 1 bucket into the other. Let the filter run for 5 minutes (or more for better accuracy). If you run it for 5 minutes, multiply the gallons filtered by 12 for the gph. To get the gallonage, either use buckets with measurements or weigh the water (8lbs per gallon).
have fun…
