Question by Stephen: Fish tanks! regarding gallons per fish?
Hi. I am trying to make a new aquarium for my son, a 50 gallon tank. Anyways, the first question I have regards fish and how much water is needed per fish. When it says “requires minimum 10 gallon tank” under information, does that mean that only those 10 gallons should be for that fish. For instance in my aquarium, a 50 gallon tank, would I only be able to get 2 fish that require a minimum of a 25 gallon tank, or could I get more? Is the minimum tank requirement for a fish considering that that’s the only fish within those requirements? or??? Please let me know if you have any idea, thanks.
I am mostly trying to find out how many fish i can put in the big tank. When i hear a fish needs a 50 gallon tank, does that mean that said fish should be the only fish in that 50 gallon tank, or that I can have more in the tank?
I was actually considering salt water fish with a few small corals with room to grow ect… but I heard basslets are mild tempered fish and do well in coral environments so i was planning on getting 10-20 fish consisting of 3-4 different kinds of basslet.. either way i suppose the best information will come from a fish store.. thanks for your replys

most people say 1 inch of full grown fish per gallon. but that’s mainly for small community fish. if you had a school of 6 neon tetras thats 1.5inches per fish so that’s 9 inches of fish, so around 10 gallons would be good for a school of 6 neon tetras. but bigger fishes like cichlids or some catfish need much larger tanks. like an oscar fish grows up to 12 inches but needs atleast a 55 gallon tank. so it depends on what fish you get and what combination of fish.
