Best Fish For A New Freshwater Aquarium?

For my birthday I would like to get a BiOrb Life Square 60. I currently own a fish tank a small Betta tank, I have three Penguin Tetra, three Ornate Tetra, one African Dwarf Frog and a small catfish (the ones that only grow to about 5cm. Yeah so anyway, I don’t know If i’m going to move my current fish into the new tank i’m getting. So theta’s start a fresh. I would like to get a fish that copes well on it’s own, eats live things like crickets and stuff (because that is cool!) and is medium in size. Just name me a couple fish you like, even if they go in groups. Thank you, and nothing too common.

Will Adding An Empty Freshwater Clam Shell Help My Aquarium?

i currently have a 20-gal high tank containing:
2 blue gouramies
2 small cories
5 black-skirt tetras
5 neon guppies
2 apple snails
1 water lily bulb (medium sized)
1 amazon sword plant
i have a little hollow log for occasional cover, filtered and cleaned Play-Sand for substrate, an added aerator, and monitor/keep temp at a solid 78F. my pH is balanced/neutral.
i found an empty (as in long-dead) freshwater clam shell while on vacation, brought it home and cleaned it. the original thought was that the added shell mineral in the tank would help with my apple snails in maintaining their shells and also for a bit of decor. am i wrong? also, if i’m not wrong, will adding a properly cleaned empty shell help any of my other fish/plants?

I Need Help Stocking A 30 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium?

I have this fish tank and I’m pretty sure it is a 30 gallon. It will be a tropical fish tank, I was wondering about stocking because I’ve only had 10 gallons before and I wasn’t allowed to use the 30 gallon. So I first thought about what decorations I’ll have in the tank. I have never used the backgrounds sold in pet stores, but the tank has to stay in the basement and I don’t really like the wall that the tank sets in front of. So I think I will just get a plain blue background or maybe a blue one with bubbles. Then I thought about decorations. My brother has some old driftwood so if it is clean then I think I may use it. I don’t really care whether or not it looks natural. In my 10 gallon tank I have some plants and a small piece of driftwood. So you think it will be all natural, then right up front in the middle is Spongebob Squarepant’s pineapple house. So natural or not, it just doesn’t matter to me. So back to my 30 gallon. I’m sure I will have some plants. I’m not sure if they will be live or fake. I don’t do all that good with live plants though. I will have gravel for the substrate. I think I will just go to Lowe’s or some other home building store and get a bag of gravel there and make sure to rinse it out really well and use that.
So now I need help with the fish part. I wanted to put just one angelfish in the tank with a few other fish. Now my main questions:
1). If I did go with the one angelfish and other fish, what other fish could I put with it?
2). I’m pretty sure angelfish are freshwater right? Or am I wrong?
3). If I had an upside down catfish, what fish could I put with it?
4). If I put a dwarf puffer fish, what other fish could go with it?
5). Can dwarf puffers live in freshwater?
So right now the tank is cycling so I have 30 days to figure out what fish can go in there. Thanks!

Freshwater Shrimp Breeding And Keeping?

I’m actually interested in setting up a 20 gallon long aquarium with shrimp. I really don’t want to do ghost shrimp and from the looks of all the sources online cherry shrimp are pretty popular… so if I could avoid those that would be great. I’m actually wanting to do something with a little bit of a challenge but not something I’m gonna pull my hair out. Are there rarer shrimp that I could get into that could be breed in a 20 gal long? Looking for something with some color to it instead of clear or brown. I say that because if I need to remove some I could easily sell them for store credit or money at the local fish shop for supplies to continue doing this. I’m actually doing some research on all the shrimp and looking for some ideas that maybe I haven’t run into. If there are sights that sell the rarer shrimp that anyone knows of that would be awesome! Thanks a million folks!

Unique Freshwater Fish?

I’m looking for fish that would work in a 5 to 10 gallon aquarium. Any ideas? Thanks :)

How To Convert My 60 Gallon Freshwater Tank To Live Plants?

Hi, I have had a 60 gallon aquarium for about 2 months now and I have noticed looking on youtube that live plants are so much cooler. I would like to convert but have no idea how and how to care for them. I have white sand (nothing special, super naturals) will this be ok? can you please tell me how to do everything, plus what kind of plants are easy and look good. Please also tell me how to care for them once they are in… if you can. THANKS SO MUCH!

Is This Rock Safe To Place In A Freshwater Aquarium?

Hi, I have this big rock (and a small one) that I found in my backyard that I want to place in my tank. At first it looks a lot like granite, but is less durable (did not pass the nail test) since it chips off and creates dust when I scratch it with a nail. It is hard enough however to scratch glass? Has a pebbly kind of look to it with a lot of white spots with gray spots within and some small amounts of brown spots. It looks quite a lot like granite though, but upon closer inspection it does not have the shiny crystals like granite. Also when I tried to disinfect it with very hot water, one of the rocks (the smaller one), cracked when removed it from the water which leads me to believe it is sandstone. Like I said it has a lot of white and grey particles which are about even in size (I’d say about 1/16 of an inch). If I’m not mistaken this rock (sandstone) is safe to use in a fresh water aquarium correct? By the way if anyone is in Southern California, does anyone know of a place where I can find some aquarium safe rocks (other than petco or petsmart).
