Powerhead In Freshwater Aquarium?

i have a 125 gal. freshwater aquarium with a eheim pro 3 600 and i don’t think its moving the water enough. I was looking at getting a powerhead. The tank has angels, tetras, rasboras, and some danios. Im worried because the fish are small and they might get sucked to the powerhead and die. So i was wondering if its a good idea to get a powerhead and if so what kind and size. Thanks in advance.

I Needs Advice On My Freshwater Community Tank!?

I just started a new aquarium a couple days ago (I’m only experienced in small single fish tanks and outdoor ponds I have). It’s 10 gallons, heated, the whole nine yards. I have 1 Blue Gourami, 3 Angels, and a Pleco (sucker). They’re all young and get along just fine and yes I know they will get bigger and I’ll put them in one of my artificial ponds when that time comes (I live in south Florida so the water is already warm enough for them). They guy at the pet store said I still have room in the tank and can add more fish like neon tetras, small coy fish, and a few other types. My worry is that the big fish will bully the small fish. I didn’t have this problem with my artificial ponds because the small fish I added were wild minnows from my real pond and they are very hardy fish and had no problem showing the bigger fish whose boss and as far as I know there wasn’t any spread of disease. So now I want to do is take some more minnows out of the wild pond and put them in my aquarium to see what the other fish do. Is that a good idea? How do I know the minnows are healthy and won’t disease my other fish? And does anyone else have the type of fish I have together with small fish?

Help! How Do I Kill Freshwater Snails Yet Not My Shrimp In My Aquarium?

I have a delima.
I breed Crystal Red Shrimp aka CRS (freshwater shrimps) that reach a max size of about 1″ inch. I keep absolutly nothing else in a live planted tank (3,000 gallons total in breeding tanks) and have been invaded heavily by freshwater snails that came in on some plants obviously. The problem being I can’t think of anything that is a natural predator to the freshwater snail that won’t also eat my shrimp or especially their babies! As for Chemicals, I have the same delima where I can’t think of what would kill the snails and not my shrimp.
I’ve been feeding heavily in a single area where the snails will swarm and I smash them by hand but they still keep breeding like crazy and are out of control!
p.s. I have several thousands of these shrimp so there are to many to hand pick all out like I would tell someone else in order to first treat the tank, kill the snails then put the shrimp back.
ANY IDEAS ANYONE????

29 Gallon Freshwater Aquarium – Setup #01 – 7-29-2008

My First Freshwater Aquarium Setup as of 7-29-2008 As of shooting this the water and gravel have been in the tank over a week. I put in the driftwood, sabertooth skull, filter and plants just this afternoon. I haven’t bought any fish specifically for this tank but I did put my Beta in just to cycle the tank for a few more weeks.

How Can I Inexpensively Increase Light To My Freshwater Aquarium?

I currently own a 25 gallon aquarium with an 18″ 15 watt flourescent light. Me being silly and buying on impulse bought some cabomba aquatica and java fern. How Can I increase the light to make my plants more healthy? I put a 11 watt desk lamp shining into it before (From the side) but my dad confiscated it because it was unsafe!! It wasn’t in the slightest but now I am stuck, I currently dont have much money and really need some ideas for increasing light to these plants! The following video is of my aquarium (The lighting in it has been slightly exagerated on film to show where light mainly hits the plants) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcnSWsXDn…
please help, also if I need to install a new flourescent light, what should I choose? Also how do I fit it? At the moment my light is connected to some thing that came with it and I would have no idea if it is suitable to hod a higher power light.
Thank you!! :D

Bad Idea? Freshwater Sand Vs. Gravel? Both?

STILL cycling…. feels like the levels will never level out, but they are getting there…
Anyway, decided I really want some cory cats when the cycling is done and ive already got black aquarium gravel in my 30 gal, I know corydoras like digging in sand, so I was wondering how bad of an idea it would be to create areas in my tank with sand in it? Still thinking about how i would pull it off, maybe using some sort of separator to keep the sand somewhat out of the gravel…
Are corydoras ok with that gravel? I keep hearing 2 dif stories about their barbs wearing down with the gravel, but I also heard sand is a ***** to clean…. Dont know if I want to spend a lot of time cleaning sand….
Also wanting live plants? Sand vs gravel for plants? Keep in mind ive never had live plants in any of the aquariums I have had in the past, so I’m pretty clueless when it comes to that…
Sand, gravel and plants vs plecos? Still not sure if I want a pleco or not… Already starting to run out of room with the fish i want to get even if i get a max size 3in pleco…..
I spent like $50 on that stupid gravel, so I’d hate to replace it with expensive sand before I even had it for a month…
