Is a fiddler crab an easy pet to keep?

I’ve been looking for hours trying to find a nice little pet for a 2.5 gallon rectangular fish tank. I saw some fiddler crabs at a petsmart near my house (I probably will buy them from a more “humane” place) and I saw there and read online that they grow to only about 2 inches!!! I was sooo happy. I went home and researched around the internet. Turns out they’re semi-aquatic, brackish, and freakin cool-looking. I figured they could live in a 2.5 gallon with one or two at the most. I also have some sea-salt, a heater, a light, and various rocks+gravel laying around. I only need the tank, a filter (brackish water safe), and the little guys of course. I will not buy an aquarium kit ok. So really what I’m asking is this:
-Can I put a male and female (I know the hatchlings won’t live) or two males together?
-Is there a hob filter for this size? (if you can get a link to one, that would help, A LOT)
-2.5 gallons is sufficient as long as they can get to dry land, right?
-Can i feed a fiddler like a sinking fish pellet or algae wafers?
-How much salt should be in the aquarium water? Please tell me in tablespoons or something, because I don’t know the measurements that go according to 4 digits like this: 1.024, 1.004, 1.019, etc.
Thanks in advance for your answer. If you could point me in the direcetion of some care sheet, It’d be much appreciated :)

Fiddler Crab Crabitat Setting Up Questions?

I am beginning to set up a 29 gallon fiddler crabitat. All I have right now is two bags of sand (50lbs per.) but they’re not in the aquarium yet. I plan on making it half land, half water, and having the water deep so that I can also get some rosy red minnows to make the tank look nice, and also maybe be feeder fish for the crabs.

Here is my questions:
What gender and how many fiddlers should I get? I am thinking that I want both male and female.

Can I use a wood board to keep the stand up then use gravel to make it slide down to the water for them? Just so that it’s easy to keep the sand from not moving?
Can minnows be kept in the aquarium with them/will the fiddlers eat them?
What do they eat?
is a 29gal big enough for 3-5 fiddlers? How many max? Including one male. or two if I have 4+ females.
I already have a 29gal–it’s where my goldfish used to live before they were moved to the 55 for the cycling and after they’ll be in a 100-150+gal pond.

The 29 is empty right now, I am going to add in the sand as soon as I am better (Sick right now) I am thinking of getting glass to put half way through so I will fill half with sand, the bottom of the aquarium (water side) with sand with a long path up with gravel and put 2-3 minnows in for food. I had minnows in the passed, but killed them all due to adding too much aquarium water coloring for outdoors. Oops. Mine grew to around 2″ longest before I killed them all. >.<

Is this an OK setup for fiddler crabs?

I just set up my fiddler crab habitat in my 29 gallon aquarium–there is no fish or crabs in it yet, and won’t be for a while. I have 75lbs of sand in the aquarium filled half to the top with a slope coming down into the water with sand on the bottom. There is a filter which I am going to get a new one [it's not working, old] which is in the corner, There is fake plants in and out of the water for the fish to hide in and the fiddlers to climb in, some is going into the separate water dish. On the slope there is several rocks leaving other areas for them to stand out of the water, and also get into the water a different way. On the other side of the aquarium on the slope there is a tunnel thing that I put as a tilt so they can get in the water that way but also stay out. Underneath it is a gravel landing that they can get in and out of the water to stay out that way, but they have to get back into the water to get to the main sand area.

There is several gems and marbles in the water, not only because it looks pretty but as a grip incase the sand was too steep in the beginning.

Pic: [since I say it awful, haha] the sand is all wet cause I just set it up.

Edit: My heater is not in the water yet.
Itt goes to close to 5″ deep, but I may make it deeper by taking out some of the sand from the bottom and putting it on land.

My fiddler crab does nothing but hide.?

I just bought a female fiddler crab over the weekend and all she has done is move some rocks from underneath one of our aquarium decorations and hid. We tried moving the decoration and getting her out and replacing the decoration so she couldn’r get under it, but she still got back under. Now I don’t see her in the hole she made or anywhere else in the tank. I know she couldn’t have gotten out of the tank since it is completely sealed with the lid weighted down to ensure the cat doesn’t try anything.

I’m reading all of these posts about how active their fiddler crabs are and I’m disappointed that mine only hides. Any ideas??

Fiddler Crab Dropping Limbs?

I just bought a Fiddler crab from wal-mart 3 days ago, and I have him in a 5 gallon tank that’s 3/4 filled with water and I have an ornament he can climb to reach the surface. I added the remainder of my aquarium salt to the tank (I only have a bit left) because the tank was originally a freshwater, and I’m going to get some more salt tomorrow. I looked at him a few hours ago, and he was fine, every limb intact and relaxing at the surface. When I came back up to my room to go to bed, he had dropped his large claw and 3-4 legs. I haven’t been able to find any solid information as to whether this is disease or an oncoming molt, and I’m just curious as to what’s going on with my crab? I only have danios and cories in the tank with him, and they leave him alone fine. The tank is overfiltered and heated. I’m getting a full test kit tomorrow (hopefully) so I can find out the parameters, but I have never had water problems before. Please help!

Fiddler Crabs Set-Up and Care?

I’ve looked around online, talked to the manager of the fish room at the independent pet shop I buy at and am now seeking advice from Y!Answers on care for Fiddler Crabs. I have not purchased them yet as I want an ideal environment for them.

~Habitat/Tank Size
~Tank Set-Up (looking for advice beyond “escape proof”)
~How many per tank
~Heat Ranges
~Salinity (yes, I know, freshwater aquarium salt)
~Feeding…. Types of food, frequency
~Effective filtration
~Tank Mates (Advice here varies from none to small, quick top dwellers)
~Should I plant the aquarium or will they tear it up (again, info varies)

Thanks in advance.
