When Is A Good Time To Change My Goldfish Water Completely?

I have (5) goldfish in a 50 gallon tank, I just change the water completely (ewh) Yuck ! .. My new girlfriend hadn’t changed it in what seemed like months, I accidentally killed (no. they died) do to my not knowing how to actually care for them in the changing water process. So that has been about two weeks, but I noticed yesterday that their water was already getting foggy and looked really dirty so i wanted to do as has been advised to clean it a 25%. of the tank, but when I started shaking up the water and moving some of the rocks around. I noticed there was a large amount of debris and waste right there so I cleaned that as well and then I took more water out to a half. and it was even dirtier so I took out more ….. almost, close if not 75% of the water. leaving only 25% and they started looking at me like “Wow, I thought you were our friend”… But I didn’t want to torture them by taking them out of their inviorment again. and it seemed like as soon as the water started coming back in .. they were alright. .. I would mix all the conditioner and wait for about twenty minutes then I would poor the cleaned water into the aquarium.. and they would go after the new water like it had some kind of food or nutrional value to it. (I noticed because I would poor each new filling on each side of the tank and they would move to the most recent side that I poored into) But It is a real Job changing that tank. Taking all the rocks and all their BIG rocks they play around and hide around in is alot of work. I know if I dont do it, it will not get done .. and they now depend on me to ffeed them every morning. which I love doing. they seem like dogs when they get happy and wiggle like a dog does its tail. but does it upset them when I take them out of their element ? and how many fish should I put in the Temporary container. how big should it be ? will the tap water effect them for a short period or should that water be conditioned too, or should it be the water from which they just came from ? and how long is too long to have them out of the tank with all the filters and oxygen they need ? I appreciate all responces and thank you for reading this.

Cleaning My Fish Tank Completely?

I’m selling my fish tank and giving my fish to my friends with an established tank. The filter is going to be sold too but who I’m selling it to may not get it set up right away. I plan on just cleaning it out entirely in order to make it easy for them to just start from scratch. How should I transfer the fish and what should I do to clean out my 40 gallon tank AND filter?

Can Plants Completely Filter A Fish Tank?

I want to conduct a little experiment. (NO PETA ACTION REQUIRED I WILL USE DEAD SHRIMP USED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION NOT LIVING CREATURES FOR THIS EXPERIEMENT)
I want to see if aquarium plants will completely replace bio media in a fish tank.
1. I will use a 5 gallon tanks and in each tank set the conditions as follows
>Bare bottom
>Room temp (so one heater doesn’t’ heat more than another)
>No filter
>Air pump for circulation placed in the same location in all tanks
>One dead shrimp per gallon of the same size
>Same test kit
> My variable will be the amount of plants (same plant will be used)
What’s your opinion? Is it possible to completely cut out a filter in a fish tank and maintain perfect conditions?

How do I completely empty an aquarium?

After having fish as a hobby for many years, I’ve decided to no longer have fish after the last one died. I have removed all plants, gravel, under-gravel filters, pumps, thermometers and light hoods. The tank is about 25 gallons. I’ve siphoned out as much water as I can, leaving about 2″ of muddy -icky water. I’m not strong enough to pick up the tank and dump it over outside — so…. now what? ~~Thanks for any ideas!

How do I get rid of ick completely?

I have a 20 gallon tank, with two goldfish (One’s a black moor and the other is a Ryukin). The tank is about 3 months old and this is the very first problem we have run into. Well, we introduced a placo last Sunday into the tank and he seemed to be alright. Later on that night, I noticed that he had white spots all over his little body and we seperated him from the rest of the fish. The next morning the goldfish started hanging out at the bottom of the tank and every once in a while they swim around. They do have normal apetites, but I’ve started noticing that the black moor has milky skin while my Ryu has red streaks all over its fins.

I have been treating them with tank buddies parasites since Monday, but the goldies don’t seem to be changing their behavior. The Placo, however, died this morning. I’m at my wit’s end and I don’t know what to do. Should I take the fish out and scrub the tank completely? Or do I change the medications that I’m placing in the tank? Please help me!!
